And nobody who adopted internationally has moved to the CHILD'S country, I guess it's too hard to give up everything you know and love for the sake of the CHILD, it's just easier to make the child do it.

Hey there, we adopted from China in 2006. Our adoption took just about a year, which is not the case now as the timeline has stretched to 5+. We chose China because we wanted to be parents to a child that already existed and needed a family and the process was very predicatable (at the time). She is 3 now and is doing amazingly well. Her imagination astounds us every day and she is considered to be developmetally advanced. We love every part of her and look forward to becoming parents again, but this time we are going through the domestic foster care system

I was taken from my home, my heritage and my family and to be raised in another country. I was taken from a loving mother who was told by the nuns where I was born that I was dead.

The adoption process took 9 months (?!) and cost $104

I'm doing great now that my emotional 20 year search has ended and my family and I are finally reunited.

I wanna go home . . .

I adopted my son from Guatemala in 2005. The whole process from homestudy to bringing my son home took about a year or so. My son came home just before he turned 8 months old.

He had some medical issues that are all taken care of now. They were mostly milk allergies and skin issues. He is highly intelligent, started speaking at a very early age.

If you'd like more information on intercountry adoptions, go to the Department of State site. All the policies and rules are posted in it:

We adopted our first from India, primarily because we were living there for 3 years and had the opportunity to adopt. It took us a total of 6 weeks from our first contact with the lawyer to the day that we had her in our home under a PGO from the Indian court. She was 8 months old at the time. From there, we had to wait approx 2 years till we returned home before we could finish the adoption at home. She's now 15 years old.

Our youngest was adopted at home, through our Foster to Adopt program. We picked her up at the hospital at 4 days old. She came to us 5 months after we started the process and her adoption was just finalized at the start of June when she was 3.5 months old.

Both are doing wonderfully.

We adopted two school age siblings from Liberia about two and a half years ago. The process took approximately a year. We chose the route we did after a LOT of research, education and self-examination.

Our children are adjusting extremely well. We were prepared for more adjustment issues, grief/loss, bonding problems than we actually encountered. We have had none of the horror stories associated with international adoption of older children. They have bonded well with family, including our large and diverse extended family. They both do well in school and have many friends. We are addressing educational needs, of course. But with a very supportive school, along with outside resources, my children are catching up with their age-peers in leaps and bounds.

For the most part, our family functions like any other. My children don't like to do their homework, or go to bed on time, or eat their vegetables. There are sibling squabbles, we have to measure out ice cream to the molecular level to ensure that the bowls are EXACTLY the same!

They look for games and fun with everything and are actively exploring the world around them. I think that's one of the parts of being a parent that I enjoy the most: watching them discover and learn... all of those "firsts".

Thanks much.

Adopted a girl from Taiwan and with us being also of Chinese heritage, she has adapted very well. We will still however tell her she's adopted when she is old enough to understand.

We adopted from China almost 2 years ago.

We chose China for a few different reasons......
Since we already have 2 bio sons we wanted a daughter and China has mostly (not all though) girls instead of boys available.
The children in China are free for adoption meaning they have been abandoned by their first families and are living even in an orphanage or foster care. I didn't like the idea of taking a child from it's first mother's arms.
The adoption is finalized IN China and the child becomes a US citizen as soon as their passport is stamped in the US.

The process was quick and pretty easy. We adopted a child with special needs so we don't have the regular time line of someone who didn't adopt SN.
China has changed a lot in 2 years though and they are much stricter now and the wait time is getting very long.

As for how is she doing...she is doing great! We had surgery to correct her medical need and she is a beautiful, full of life 3 year old princess who we adore.
