If a birthmother lost her baby to adoption in Ohio in 1980, what should she do next to find him?

If a birthmother lost her baby to adoption in Ohio in 1980, what should she do next to find him?

She has registered on ISSR,etc. All details were kept from her and no family left to ask. What about one of those Omni Trace type groups? Shedoesn't want to interrupt a life. Just wants to know "the end of the story" and die peacefully. Thanks for your help. She is a good friend who is quite ill and I know that this will help!

Edit***Thanks for all of the help. I changed my profile to allow emails. If you are still interested in helping, I would love to hear from you!

I want to help but you won't allow email

The records are sealed to anyone born 1964-1996. Anyone before or after that can get their records. Talk about discrimination! It never fails to amaze me how terrible sealed adoption records laws are - wowzers

I wish your friend all the luck in the world. she deserves to know what happened to her son, at the very least and nobody should be interfering with two grown adults contacting each other - especially not the State for goodness sakes! that makes a complete shambles of the US constitution

I wish you well.

I've heard bad bad stories about Omni trace. they take people's money and run. Avoid them if you can.

I know people who have had great and fairly quick success with Kinsolvers.

Good luck.

I have a friend who's a search angel for ohio. I won't post her email publically, but I will send it to you privately if you contact me.

Heres from ohio law:

A natural parent or adult natural sibling may submit a request for assistance in finding an adopted person’s name by adoption. The department may release the adopted person’s name by adoption if:
The adopted person’s adoption file contains a request from the adopted person that permits release of the information.
The natural parent’s parental rights concerning the adopted person were not involuntarily terminated.
The request is in writing, with a notarized signature, and includes identification of the natural parent or natural sibling.

Don't use Omni. I have had many a friend get screwed over by them. If she can afford it, use kinsolving. See if she can contact the agency or the state.

Contact the agency that she went through. They will contact the attorney representing the adoptive parents, who will in turn contact the adoptive parents.

Also, if you haven't already done so...contact Gershom. She has generally proven to be very well informed and helpful.
