If you relinquished prior to 1971, were you given a shot or pills to "dry your milk?"?

Additional Details
If you have your records, can you look and see if you were given Diethylstilbesterol ? It is also known as DES and was commonly given to women prior to 1971 during pregnancy, sometimes in prenatal vitamins, and to dry milk post partum. Not sure if it was given postpartum after 1971 for the purpose of drying milk. It should be in your medical records, however.

Dear Sly,

I was "offered" some kind of pills "to dry my milk" in 1998, after my daughter was born - I doubt it was Diethylstilbesterol but who knows. After being pressured to take it several times I finally told them to go f*%k themselves. (I don't take pharmaceuticals unless absolutely necessary.) I am glad I didn't take it; whatever it was!

PS Did you know that Diethylstilbesterol (DES) is made from TAR and causes cancer!? They have found that effects of this drug cause cancer - even in the third generation AFTER the recipient!? YIKES!!! This drug was used on millions of women. It was also used to treat infertility and as a post-coital control drug! How's that for weird!!

I have nothing to add as far as pre '71 goes but I am fairly sure my mom was given meds to stop milk production in '77 when I was born and I know two friends who were given something in '93 and '95. I was asked if I wanted a shot to stop my milk from coming in after my son was born in '94 as well. My response? "Why the hell would I want that? Can't I pump for him till he gets out of the NICU!?!"

Not Adopted
I know you asked for prior to 1971, but I was given pills in 1982.

I've never even heard of this... Interesting. It sounds horrible and unhealthy. I know I'm not answering your question, but I did want to say thanks for making me aware of something I wasn't aware of previously.

My mother didn't relinquish me, but was given DES in 1968 to dry up her milk because she didn't want to breastfeed. She said no one she knew breastfeed children and there was no way was going to and that was normal to do at the time.

My mother did not relinquish me either, but she did get a shot to dry her milk up because she wasn't going to breastfeed. She got the same shot with my older siblings, also.

Many women didn't know about it whether relinquishing or not. My ex boyfriends mother got a shot and he had a few epididymal cysts on his scrotum. I have several friends whose mothers had it and they are infertile because of it.
My gyno physician ask me on day 1 if my mother received des shots or pills, fortunately my mother was against any unnecessary meds and very outspoken. It was a miracle our family doctor talked her into getting immunization shots for all her children. Im in my mid 30s and just last year I got my necessary second rubella shot.

They way doctors profit off of drugs today makes me very leary of how necessary they are.

I think it was criminal of your doctor to give you that med without telling you as well as not informing you of the uncertainty of the affects of it. I wonder if you could sue.
