Yes, you should be fine. Just contact your local authority Children and Families Division for all the information you need.

Lori, adoption in the UK is not a social service for children. Adoption is only done through the Care System and there is no private 30,000 $$$$ crappola going on here, thank god!

Having a spare bedroom isn't essential and right at this moment it's something you don't need to worry about. You have a choice of either approaching your local social services, an adoption agency, BAAF or NCH all of whom can answer your questions and give good advice then you can decide whom you want to go through to adopt. Whoever you talk to will be more than happy to put your mind at rest.

Council house = rented house from local council

You are doing some thing very nice for a child to have a nice home i wish you all the luck you need in doing so...

The rules vary by region but in many places there are space requirements and in some cases a requirement that each child has their own room. As someone else mentioned fostering may be a great way to get yourself prepared for adoption as most of the requirements that apply to foster parents are applicable or transferable to the adoption process.

They do allow single people however the fact that you are in small accomadation may go against you, you need to show that you have space and the funds to adopt a child. However, if you apply for adoption the council may give you a 3 bed property, this is something you would have to check. Also if you are white and wanting to adopt a mixed heritaged child you may have trouble, they usually like a parental group who can relect all aspects of a childs heritage. But there is nothing wrong in enquiring and arranging a chat with a social worker. Good Luck :)

try fostering first b4 u make any decisions - an adopted child is not gona be like having a biological child, theres a whole area of potential issues waiting to erupt but good on ya anyway, there are kids who need homes whatever people on here say about adoption. try lookin after a foster child first if u can.

it would depend if your income is high enough. working part time i don't think it is. you need a certain amount of living space also. may i suggest you do foster parenting and see if you can adopt through that. that's what i did for 17 years. i adopted my son who is 15 and wants nothing to do with me now. lol had him when he was only a week old too. go figure

i think you are fine for adoption.

What is a council house?

I think you have some unrealistic dreams. No offense. If you do not own a home can you afford a $30.000 baby? Or are you looking at rescuing a child from foster care? If not foster care are you willing to wait the years it takes to get a child? Or are you wanting a baby now? Is this so your son has a playmate?

You do not need a spouse to adopt but you will need a decent income. Is part time going to cover it? Agencies usually require that the child have their own room. Is this an option on part time pay? Who will baby sit? Can you afford to pay them?

As you can see, I have more questions than answers for you. I am not trying to be mean, but a home study is a must if you go through an agency or a lawyer, and you don't like lots of questions? What about as the child grows and has lots of questions? Like... am I adopted, who are my parents, why didn't they want me?

Just some things to think about.

ETA: MY BAD. Thanks for correcting me. I OBVIOUSLY don't understand.

I think your idea is great..well done you.

I don't think they let you unless you have a steady partner or are married.

Don't quote me on that though.
