In australia, is fostering or adopting children difficult?

i know there is a difference between fostering and adoption. i would like info on how to go about it and what is needed. eg money, police clearance, etc. any info would be great or any persoanl experiences.

Adoption is very difficult in Australia - under 500 adoptions are finalised per year - most are overseas adoptions and in-family adoptions.
There are almost no domestic adoptions - as mother's are encouraged to parent - first and foremost - as this is what is best for the child.

There is a huge need for more foster carers in Australia.
(it would depend on what state you live in - as this is handled by each state separately.)
Google search foster care and your state - and look for the specific details for your state.

For instance - for NSW - I found these links -
http://www.community.nsw.gov.au/DOCS/HOMEPAGE/HOME.htm
http://www.fcansw.org.au/

There may be instances where you will be able to adopt a child from foster care - but again - in most cases - they do not like to sever that family link - unless it's absolutely necessary.
Instead - you may be a permanent foster carer for that child instead.
Cases vary - but do get in touch with your state DOC's department on what steps to take.

I had a phone call from the foster care association here in my town asking if I was a foster carer which I am not but I did consider doing it as there are over 300 children in my town needing a stable home but my husband believes we must care for our own 3 before attempting to care for anyone else's.

I believe they are desperate for carers still & yes there would have to be a police check. As for money I'm guessing you'd need to have enough to care for the child/ren that you tend to care for. I also understand that they aren't just after couples anymore they are after anyone who can provide a stable, loving, caring environment for these poor children that just want to feel wanted, needed & loved.

Goodluck.
