Is a caseworker likely to pick an out of state family?

For any caseworkers out there that place kids in adoptive families, or anyone who has had experience with this, if a child is available for adoption and there are families in state interested and families out of state, how often is an out of state family chosen over an in state family?

Only about i% of the time. The paperwork is horrendous enough without doing an out of state adoption. They will choose a family in state 100% of the time would be a pretty accurate Educated guess. And there are Always a family in state that will match up---generally they do NoT attempt even to do a match unless the big bucks are laid out------

It really depends on the individual situation. Most case workers are anxious to find a family that best meets the child's needs. Some children would do best as an "only child," while others would be happier in a family with older siblings. Some children have expressed a desire to live in the country, with pets and places to run around outside, while others prefer city life. Some, because of their backgrounds, are thought by their caseworkers to need placement in a single parent home.

If your background and family dynamics are best for a particular child, it is very possible that you will be selected by the caseworker regardless of your location. However, some children available for adoption also have extended bio family members in their state, and will want to remain in contact.

In state first if there is a choice. Especially if there are sibs that want to visit each other. It's too traumatic to move a child out of state. And the logistics are difficult. Children should be transitioned into adoption with visits and warm up sleep overs and that would be very hard for an out of state family to accomplish.
