Is anyone Adopted???

My brother and I are adopted (same birth mom... different dads), and i'd really like to find my birth mom. My mom told me that we were adopted through some process called a "private" adoption. In other words, we don't know anything about our birth mom. Is there any way at all to find her???
Additional Details
I was adopted in Macon, Georgia.

Hi Hattie, a private adoption doesn't necessarily mean that you don't know anything about your first parents. There are plenty of privately handled open adoptions, where the adopted children grow up knowing who their first parents are and even having some contact with them.

The information and resources available to you depend on the state in which your adoptions were finalized. You can go to this site http://adopteerights.net/nulliusfilius/?page_id=39 and click on the state where your adoption finalized to learn more about what is available in terms of information and resources to help you. If you were adopted in one of the states that allows you simple access to your own original birth record -- Kansas, Alaska, New Hampshire, Oregon, Alabama and Maine (as of 1-9-09) -- you can obtain your first mother's name. Although that doesn't actually find you for her, it certainly is a good tool to have.

Make certain to sign up with the International Soundex Reunion Registry at http://isrr.net. It is the largest reunion registry in the world.

There are a lot of knowledgeable people here who will be able to give you ideas for your search.

Try getting your non identifying information through the state your adoption was finalized in. What state was it? if you post the state I can give you some leads :)

Zuko
In most (if not all) states you can purchase your non-identifying information. (Ethnic background, family medical history, ect)

In some states you can pay an extra fee for identifying information (the names/locations of your biological/first family) but it will only be released to you upon consent of your surviving relatives. If they don't consent then that information will not be released to you.

I strongly advise AGAINST a private investigator... they charge exorbitant fees and a lot of times are unable to find your first family. You can go on different search websites and enter your info in case THEY'RE looking for you. Try asking your mom about the lawyer she went through. Even if she doesn't have your f-mom's name or know anything about her, the lawyer might be able to tell you which lawyer your f-mom went through, and thus your f-mom's lawyer may be able to give you more information... or at least tell you where to start!

So, things to ask your mom about that may help you search.

What hospital you were born in.
What hospital your brother was born in.
What lawyer your mom used.
Where there any social workers involved? What are their names?

I know this isn't everything, but it's a good start!

You should probably go through a private investigator or search the states records where you were born to find leads and then start your own search.

Hope this helps.

HI! I was adopted...and I also have 2 adopted children! One of them was a private adoption...which means...The birth mother and I went thru the adoption process without an agency or without DHS. The adoption records are sealed...no one can get those records anymore. However, there is still hope...your adopted mother knows! I guarantee you that! Have you tried talking to her about it? Maybe she thinks that you are not old enough to find her...and that may just be the case! Sometimes birth mothers are not good to find until the adoptee is mature enough to meet her and understand why you were adopted.

There is no such thing as an open adoption...it is just something that the agency's tell the birthparents!

Yes. Im adopted through a private adoption too n u can contact the social worker who did your case and ask her to help u find your mom. But some social workers wont help u until your 18 years old

Super HORSE lover!!!
I believe you shouldnt really look for her. It hurts doing it right? If she left you guys It means she didnt care, i know the feeling! Just put in your mind that she is dead. BCZ you will actually might get really sad when you learn who she really is! Mine left me and I wish i never met her! But i did the mistake to find her...

i think if it is possible at all there would be an intermediary where you'd contact them and they'd look into it and any correspondence would go through them. it wouldn't be direct. not for a while.

It mite depend on the state but, there is a folder that your mother could make about herself on file. You have the right to access it, ask your mom if she knows anything about it.

Try asking your dad for the adoption papers or if he knows her. Try googling it and write how to find birth parent. Hope i helped!

im sure there is. but it would involve stealing files from a government controlled building. you could go to jail for a LONG time.

or do what kitanken said. lol.
