I feel like the biggest piece of $hit right now. I can honestly say through ignorance and putting too much faith in humanity and actually believing I was going to make a difference, I would have been just another person who kept that machine running. And right now I'm wondering, if I was going through the process and found all this out, what would I have done? Hung on to the faith about my case being isolated? Walk away if the adoption was pending? I really don't know. That's what scares me. It's time to take off the rose colored glasses. |

Me and my wife wanted to adopt But i also feel like i am not going to spend the money they want for us to adopt do they feel they are selling a dog or cat . Money= Business opportunities ever one pays the children that need a home the children that are stolen from homes and yes us who want to adopt We felt if we pay for a child who knows how far these agency's will go to full fill our dreams of having another child so we did not go through with it we only looked into it and like i said all i seen was alot of money hungry people looking to sell a child to us like a car or dog or cat WE NEED CHANGE |

True.
International Adoptions mimic adoptions in the US......exactly as the article said, "people are NOT adopting the neediest children."
In most cases, people are adopting the healthy babies and toddlers. No one cares about children older than 5.
Why do you think do many people goto IA? Because here in the US, you can't get a baby or toddler easily....the children in foster care are "too old" for them....so they go take babies and toddlers from other countries. |

Within the first few paragraphs, I found the sentence that sums it all up for me...
"As a result, many international adoption agencies work not to find homes for needy children but to find children for Western homes." |

I can see that in some countries that are very popular for selling babies to adoption like China and Russia. But apparently they have never been to Brazil (I am Brazilian) and seen the thousands (maybe millions?) of homeless children roaming the streets or visited the many orphanages there who struggle every day to keep food on the table! I am just a little sick of people here who assume bad about adoption all the time! I know that there are plenty of bad, unethical, and plain cruel adoptions out there and there needs to be more awareness about that but please quit assuming it is all the same. That all international adoption have to do with an AP going to a foreign country and paying $$$$ for children because it doesn't. Maybe all those people need a trip to the real Brazil, not the tourist sites! |

|
There's a lot of truth in it......anyone who is or was on a mission to adopt doesn't want to hear, acknowledge or believe it.
I don't like how Aps are let of the hook so easily.....unless they really are so ignorant that they would completely believe what a stranger making money off kids would tell them. I personally think they just don't care to know what they're participating in. |

Tell this to the babies starving in africa. what a load of total garbage |

Depends on the agency, the country, and the orphanage.
Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't.
But to be honest, I think some APs are secretly glad that other parents cannot care for their children because as adoptive parents... if those children hadn't been abandoned... those adults wouldn't BE parents.
And I honestly think that's true. I know I will probably get a LOT of thumbs down, but do you remember when I asked people about the Magic Wand? And then I got a bunch of NO and HOW COULD YOU answers?
That's why.
Because people don't ever really WANT adoption to end someday, otherwise where would they get their children from? |

It's a good start, and the title says it all.
want to believe. want to believe. want to believe...
btw, Brazilian girl, every child you take off the streets will be replaced by more until they clean up the discrimination and give people from the favelas a fighting chance. Adoption just addresses some symptoms, while allowing the disease to grow unchecked. So if you really care about homeless children, then work on social injustice too. Work on the issues that cause street children.
Otherwise, claims of wanting to help society are just hot air. Unless, of course, it's a lie we love. Because what's not a lie is that many adoptive parents of international adoption only really care about enjoying the fruits of someone else's labor... |

Some cases it may be true, but not all.
In China and S.Korea there are kids who have no families, and both governments have tried to get citizens to adopt but without much luck. In Korea adoption is still seen as bad, so if a Korean family adopts a baby they try to keep it a secret because it is considered shameful. |
