If it's either of those scenarios, then while I think it's manipulative, I don't think it's coercive as adoptive parents have other options available to them to adopt: another private infant; foster care; international.
I can see adoptive parents thinking it's coercive at the time because the desire to have a family is primal, but the reality is until the papers have been signed and rights terminated, that baby is not theirs, and every PAP knows that. |
