Is it easier to adopt a biracial child?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is it easier to adopt a biracial child?

My husband and I have been together for 12 years. We have a 10 year old daughter and 7 year old son who are biracial. They are fine with themselves luckly no identity issues. We are open with them. I am adopted and have always known one day I was going to adopt a child into our family as did my husband. Someone told me that because we want to adopt a child who is biracial ( as they will feel more comfortable in a home with two biracial siblings) it is easier? I just wanted an educated answer to this one.
thanx

Yes it is. It's all about supply and demand. They even have price lists too (with white being at the high end of the market); any hint of color puts them in the 'special needs' bracket.

The marketing and transactions involving children in the USA is so sickening; please ensure your adoption is ethical and don't just go along trusting that what the agencies do is in the best interests of the mother or the child - it's their business after all; no sale, no money.

Adoption is supposed to be a social service for the children; look into adopting the thousands of kids who need homes right now rather than buying into and becoming party to the multi-billion dollar adoption racket.

There are more children who are minorities and of mixed race available for adoption, particularly from foster care, so it is indeed easier to be placed with these children. I strongly recommend foster care adoption to you, as those children are very much in need of homes.

However, there are additional challenges involved in parenting bi-racial children in a way that encourages them to have respect for and understanding of both sides of their heritage, and to feel comfortable in their ethnicity. Since your biological children are bi-racial and you already know identity issues may be a problem, you're probably pretty prepared for that.

Understand that the transition may be quite hard for your adopted children. That doesn't mean you're necessarily doing anything wrong as parents, it just is the way it is. Make sure to provide lots of love, support, understanding, and unconditional acceptance, even if the children are having a tough time.

Who ever said adoption (of any child) is easy?!?!?!

It depends. In Ontario Canada they try very hard to place children with same or like cultures. So if your children are biracial they may allow you to adopt biracial children. We really were interested in adopting a native child, but were to told that there was a slim chance as we are not native. Keeping the child's culture intact is very important.

It's easier in the sense that more bi racial children are available for adoption than typical white children.

That goes the same with black children. There is a overwhelming amount of black children in the foster care system ready to be adopted.

We adopted a child who is identified by people who care about such things as "biracial." Since I don't care, it has been a total non-issue.

Remember, people who care don't count, and people who count don't care. This would only be an issue if you made something of it. It is a child, not a mark on a census form.
