Is it quite hard to adopt in the UK?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is it quite hard to adopt in the UK?

If you were quite old and already had an 8yr, 11yr and14yr old then would it be hard to adopt an infant from the UK? Would it be better or worse for the child if they were adopted from the UK or internationally?

Look into the foster care system - sometimes children are available for adoption through there.
These are the children who really need a loving home.
The UK - like Australia - is more about family preservation - than ripping families apart - if at all possible.

The UK will not allow international adoptions unless for special reasons like they have family abroad. The UK is a rich country so there is no need to adopt children to other countries. There are hardly any infants available for adoption in the UK (because there is no stigma towards un-wed and teenage mothers and because abortion is so available) and any that are available go to couples who can't conceive naturally. You may be able to adopt an older child from foster care with behavioural oroblem but I'm pretty sure social services would rather they stayed in foster care here than be moved across the world and have to adapt to a different culture. You could probably adopt from a developing country and get an infant.

If you are over 40, yes it would be difficult to be approved for adoption

I presume you're living in the UK?

so...

is it hard to adopt? no not really
is it hard to adopt an infant? yes
is it hard to adopt a baby? very

I think that covers all bases

Since you already have 3 of your own children you would not be considered at all for adopting a baby, and very little chance of an infant.

On the international front I presume you are asking is it easier for a UK citizen to adopt a baby from another country then bring it here. Well to be honest yes because there are so many baby markets out there in the big bad world.

There are people who use women to produce babies for them to sell to whoever wants to buy them, regardless of thier suitability. There are people who steal peoples babies and sell them, again regardless of the persons ability to care for them. If you want to encourage these practices go ahead - and I hope you sleep well at night when you are remembering about all the chidren in the UK without parents who would love to share your love and your home, but unfortunately you deemed them too old and not cute enough.

I'm sorry if this seems harsh but theres the truth of the matter

Think long and hard before you make any decision on international adoption please.

As for the part of your question is it better or worse for the child to come from the UK or internationally - all adoptees are insecure and have ongoing issues - lifelong may I add, so the colour of the skin isnt really goinf to make any difference unless you want to try and hide the fact the child is adopted. Obviously any child does better in their natural social and cultural habitat, but when adopted this matters a bit less since the child is separated from the biological family hence is already taken out of his/her natural habitat anyway.

Good luck in your decision and pursuit
