i was raped.

there's more, but some people just don't / can't understand .... until it happens to them. no point in wasting my time trying to make them understand.

First off ignore the ignorant little twits who are posting. Obviously some people were not raised with good manners, I could go on but I digress.

I have been to a "birth" mother support group and instead of healing I was subjected to more of the adoption industry's propaganda and bullying. If you are looking to really connect with others about loss and not just how warm and fuzzy we are suppose to feel there are numerous online resources. Try to avoid the ones set up by agencies though, again with the propaganda and lies. Look for ones that are created BY natural parents FOR natural parents.

The most well-known is CUB, Concerned United Birthparents. I don't know much about them, but they might be a good starting point:

I'll now render my redundant answer still more redundant by apologizing for the first two answerers. I don't know what's wrong with them or what makes them so angry, but I hope you don't let it get to you.

See if you can start a new site or group! It sounds like a good idea to have support like this! Good Luck!

If you google "birthmother support groups" you can find several online support sites. Try "firstmother" too.

For online groups, check Yahoo!Groups. I found several groups; they were helpful with many resources. However, I got most of my help by starting my own group locally. At the time, my co-worker's 32 daughter walked in and introduced herself (no warning). So, we started a 'support group' for the two of us and met at a coffee shop about 12 years ago. Since then, we've acquired 6 other members, all firstmoms. Lots of ups and downs, so having face-to-face support is very helpful even if it is only one person.

Note: several people suggested contacting local Social Services. That is as laughable as getting supportive couseling from the adoption agency AFTER the baby has been placed. If you find any help from them, I would be surprised.

I will add here that Origins-USA does have some in person support groups for mothers and adoptees. Otherwise there is always adoptioncrossroads.org they have a nightly faciliated chat for both mothers and adoptees. I will say that the best thing I ever did was join a support group, and finding a therapist well versed in adoption trauma issues for mothers she specializes in PTSD which most of us suffer from. I would also recommend Joe Soll's books. He has one for mothers and one for adoptees. I would urge you to read both, they have helped me tremendously. As far as I know CUB is another useful group, but they have changed over the years. I would also suggest that you might want to start your own support group. It is not as hard as it sounds, and can be quite rewarding, in terms of getting yourself support as well as other mothers.

I don't know of any, but I'm sure there is like some kind of support group out there.

And to the person that answered before me, YOU CAN'T JUDGE UNTIL IT HAPPENS TO YOU!

Sweetie....it doesn't matter why.... :) It only matters because others try to make it their business.
I would urge you to call your local health and welfare and ask if there are any agencies that supply mental health care... not because your "crazy"... :) Because we all need help in processing our feelings and what we are going through and talking them over with another party who has absolutely NO emotional feelings about the subject can help.
Did you go through a private or non profit agency to place your child? If you did.... the agency can pick up the costs for counseling to you. Our birthmother went through counseling. It was healing for her and we paid for it. It is important to talk about those feelings.
Good luck to you.

I went to one live "support group" and I use that term loosely. It was a waste of time and one of the ladies there is pretty well known.
I have more support from online groups then I have otherwise.
If you went through an agency contact them and they should know of a few in your area or near you.
If you wish to, get in touch with me and I will let you know of a few more. One of them is for birth/first moms only.
I also found no help from Yahoo groups. It was full of trolls and was not useful at all.

Some of the Ladies have give up their children
to other people.

Im sure there is. Contact your local social services department. They can answer you.

Call your local Health and Human services and they should be able to point you in the right direction. I am very sorry that you were raped but am glad that you decided what ever it was to decide and gave the child a chance to grow up. And it's a shame people on here can't ask real questions without being slammed when they are just looking for answers.

I wish you luck in finding a nice support group. You were very brave and you did the right thing.

It wouldn't surprise me. In America they have groups for everything. Enough for every night of the week and then some. Says so on Fight Club.
