If you are in the USA - actual adoption records are mostly sealed up tight - sadly. Pretty stupid really.
If you wish to search for someone - here's some places to start that shouldn't cost anything (there are many ways of finding people without the actual records) -
First - add your details to the registries here

Adoption records are sealed upon finalization of an adoption. Depending on the state in which the adoption occurred, the laws differ with regard to access. Five states, Alabama, Alaska, New Hampshire, Maine (starting 1/1/09) and Kansas, will give adopted citizens access to some records upon 18 years of age. Oregon will do so at age 21. A few other states, like Tennessee and Delaware, will give records to some adopted adults. Most states have requirements up to and including obtaining a court order to do so.

What "Adoption Records" do you mean? Are you referring to the Original Birth Certificate? That and the medical records that pertain to you after your birth are the only information that you are entitled to receive. If you want the OBC in order to find your mother, there are other avenues to pursue. |

In most states adoption records are closed. When I adopted my daughter they told me to be sure I got all of the copies I needed because there would not be another chance to obtain them. |
