Is there anything wrong with single parent adoption?

So what if your a women who wants to have a baby by a certain age. You get to that age and you still havent found a husband. Your mature and responsible. You think about it and you decide that their are too many children without homes so will adopt one and give him a safe and loving home. Whats your opinion on this.

There is nothing wrong with it at all.

Thats my plan actually. I'm financially secure and can be a stay at home mom, have a strong support system, etc.

I don't feel a desire to have biological children or to get married. I have nothing against being married but won't let not being married stop me from having a family.

I wasn't adopted but grew up in a single parent home and loved it. My mom was and is amazing. So many of my friends were born to 2 parent families who then divorced leaving them to go through a messy divorce then be passed back and forth and live in a single parent household anyways. If you can provide a secure and loving home I don't think there is anything wrong with being a single parent.

Edit: For those of you questioning single parent adoption vs. raising your own kids. Where exactly in society today is single parenthood frowned upon? Its all the rave in hollywood and with celebrities who are near god like in todays society. They hardly get frowned upon. There are so many single mothers in this day and age and its not like they get rocks thrown at them or anything. Just curious. I certainly don't see single mom's getting the cold shoulder where I live.

Probably not.

So then, that begs the question: Why is single-parent adoption OK but not a single-parent household raising her own biological child?

Double standards here much, people?

Most birth mothers/agencies prefer a married couple over a single parent. Simply because they think a married couple is more financially stable and they want their child to have a good two parent mommy and daddy household. They think that if a single parent adopts then the child wouldn't be in a good home and the home would be unstable for the child.

there is nothing wrong with it.

If you are mature enough and also know that can financially and emotionally take care of the child, its very good to do it. you will be helping a child.

there are sooo many teenagers that have children when they have nooo idea of how to care for a baby, and Im sure a mature woman will be much better mother.

its right that children need both mom and dad, but these children dont have any, and by adopting them you are at least giving them a mom.

I think its a very good idea and if you think you can do it, go for it.

Good luck:)

There are always benefits to having two parents, it's the ideal family but not always possible. I have two boys I raised alone for the first 6 years. I then met my husband. I'm not an advocate of adoption unless someone wants to educate themselves on the practices of unethical adoption, but to answer your question, just because you are not married by this certain age doesn't mean you won't ever be married.

All I ask is that you familiarize yourself with the difference between ethical and unethical adoption, coercion tactics, and what is in the best interest of the child, such as opened adoption even though it is not enforceable, lies and secrets, which no one should have to live under, and civil rights, as your adopted child will have none depending on where you live.

Single parenthood is not the end of the world.

No one on here is qualified to tell YOU if YOU are a capable parent. There are lot's of women who could and lot's of women who couldn't do it alone. Think of the women who do it alone already.
I think if you adopt a child at any age from Foster care, then if anyone second guesses you, say. "look where they came from."
All the power to you

I don't think there's anything wrong with single parent adoption, or being a single parent in general.

There's nothing wrong with single parent adoption. I used to work for a non-profit adoption agency and as long as you have the means to take care of them properly and can't wait for potentially years, then it's fine. There are plenty of kids that grow up without parents, adopted ones are no different, they just need a little extra love. And who knows, you may meet your husband soon!

If you cant provide a child with both parents then I suggest you adopt a child that is hard to adopt, like an older kid. While they too deserve two parents, one is better than being raised in foster homes where they can be yanked out in a moments notice. Just b/c parents CAN raise a kid alone dosent mean that makes up for what they need in a mom AND dad.
