Is this possible...?

I'm single and want to adopt. I'm an Attorney, and I have the money to support a child. Could I still adopt even though I'm single, and about how much does it cost to actually adopt a baby? I'm just looking for a child under the age of 2 and male.

By the way I live in California.

Of course you can! You must keep in mind, however, that some agencies will not accept single applicants, and some birthmothers may not select single parents.

But I am assuming you only want to adopt one baby at this time, so you only need one agency to accept you, and one birthmother to select you!

Google Single Parent Adoption and find lots of organizations and websites.

Remember that as a single parent, you will need to sort of "make up for" the fact that there is no father there, and therefore provide other stable male role models as well as a great support system of friends and family.

Adoption costs average $20,000 - $30,000. Some more, some less.

Good luck to you!

Yes you can adopt even if your single that doesnt matter. as for how much it cost i dont know. But sometimes if the city you want to adopt from really needs to adopt kids out it can be cheaper and sometimes free. You can contact children services and they can help you with it. Good Luck!

You can adopt newborns from guatemala. I think the cost is 25-30k.

You can also adopt from foster care for free, or at least its free in TX.

There are lots of other international adoption opportunties - google international adoption for more info.

Look into adopting from the foster system. You could also look at private domestic adoption, but there's a lot more expense associated with it -- and most birth mothers are probably looking for "couples" to raise their biological child, so you'd probably have a longer wait than a couple. You could also adopt internationally from some, not all, countries as a single mom. I know two single moms who adopted from Kazakhstan when it was open (I think it's closed now). Some countries allow a certain number of single parent applications to be submitted a year.

Look into it & see what would work best for you. I applaud you for wanting to add to your family.

Your an attorney? Don't you have a law library or attorney friends that know about adoption? Just curious.

Yes and no! It depends on the country and agency. You will need to explore each country and settle on an agency willing to work with single parents.

You will encounter some discrimination and this should be expected.

If you are a woman it will be much easier. However it will be important for you to temper some of the natural "American" tendencies you and I have.

Your cost will be anywhere from $0 from the California CPS to $50,000+ internationally

You have several options in California as a single person. You can adopt from foster care, from a private agency or there are some countries you can adopt from internationally as a single also - Guatemala is one of them.

Here is a resourcefull article for you regarding single parent adoption: http://library.adoption.com/Single-Parent-Adoption/Single-Parent-Adoption/article/21/1.html

and adoption in California:http://directory.adoption.com/browse/California/category-search.html

Good Luck!

Yes it is possible, you can go through the foster care system to adopt a toddler (foster care to adopt) or as an attorney you can look into private adoption.
