I've heard that if you choose to adopt a special needs child from another country, a lot of times they will waive most or some of the parental requirements? (not that i agree with that, the parents should be subjected to more scrutiny and have more training required, but not everyone sees it that way i guess....)
anyone have experience with something like this?
is it also true in some cases for domestically adopted special needs children?

Yes some will wave nonessential requirements like the parents ages, marital status and such. |

No, they wouldn't "waive some of the parental duties". They may waive SOME fees involved with the adoption, especially if you are adopting a child that really needs some sort of surgery. |

I don't know about internationally, but domestically, I think it is actually harder. Depending on the what the needs of the children are, they may actually require the adoptive parents to take extra classes that are based on the medical needs. They can also require that one parent always stays home so you may need to quit a job in order to stay home to take of the kid. |

Some of the fees are waived, and some of the requirements, for instance, to place a child that normally is very hard to place, parents who are older, single parents, etc, might be considered if they have the means to raise the child. The things that would be changed are typical guidelines, not necessarily a rule that should apply to every adoption. |

No, it is not true! However, some of the perimeters may be stretched a bit. For example, age. But the training and other requirements would be exactly the same, and more! |
