Absolutely. We're going through the adoption process right now. Your social worker, or whoever you're working with, will cover all the questions on the child you're searching for. Good luck!

Usually, people who adopt domestically will be asked about racial preferences. Since you may be matched with a birthmother, you won't get to choose the gender. In international adoption, many programs allow you to request gender, but you may not know the exact ethnic group your child will come from in certain programs. For example, when you adopt from Russia or Khazakastan, some children are blond and European looking and some are more Asian looking, and you wouldn't get to choose.

definitely. The more specific you get, the longer it takes to adopt but, you can request anything you want.

you can adopt from different countries... if you wanted an asian adopt from china, african-american adopt from africa, spanish, adopt from the south of south america... most of the time these children have worse lives before than they do in america before they get adopted.

It depends. If you adopt from the foster system, you can specify what races you're comfortable parenting. If you are open to any race, your wait will likely be shorter.

If you adopt privately domestically, I'm not sure. You could probably let your adoption agency or attorney know your preferences.

If you adopt internationally, you'll obviously have a child of a certain nationality...but most countries frown on specifying the color of skin. With our adoption we couldn't specify & had to be open to any of the skin tones they have there (caucasian, hispanic or African descent).

Yes. You will fill out an adoption questionaire and it is very detailed. It will ask your preferences for race, special needs, age, multiples and whether you will take a baby exposed to drugs. It is something you will sit down and fill out together before the adoption process begins. Then they will try to match you with a baby that fits your preferences and financial ability. Then if a birth mother chooses you as parents for her child then you get all the info and can decide at that time if this is the baby for you. Call an agency and they will take you through the steps or go to one of the online adoption websites and read all about it.

yes, the adoption agency will give some papers that will discuss race preference and or disability. They will ask if drug use by parents is acceptable etc.

yes. But you may have to wait much much longer for a child. Also in the US the mothers choose the adopotive parents, so it really could take forever.

If you want a chinese child look into a chinese agency. and so on and so forth. if you want an american baby look into american agencies good luck!!

It is your choice and your money, you should get what you want. It is not frowned upon to ask for a certain gender so why not ask for a certain nationality?
