Korean adoptive families, what are your plans?

for Chuseok?

Do you celebrate as a nuclear family? Do you gather everyone together? Does anyone have any recipes to share?

More Chuseok info: here is a useful site

Korean friends tell us that Chuseok is more easily described as Korean Thanksgiving. For people who live very far from family, they gather who they can or go to their churches and celebrate together. We usually gather a group of other adoptive families and we try to celebrate outdoors because that was a part of the old traditions. I do worry that the tradition is dying out a bit among 2nd and 3rd gen Korean immigrants because I've run into a few who don't know about the holiday.

Our agency has a special event for Chuseok each year, in collaboration with our state's Korean-American Association. There are cultural performances, korean food, and usually several guest from Korea that fly in for the event. (often Korean foster mothers)

Then, at home we usually have a special dinner, usually with extended family, read books about Korea or look at our children's photo albums from Korea (they're only 1 and 3, so there's only so much we can do right now cultural-wise)

For those who aren't familiar, this this an explanation of the holiday http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuseok
