Locating birth parents?

I live in San Diego and was adopted at birth in San Diego. I am 29 now. Me and my wife tried a few years ago but a judge refused to open my case. I need medical info for me and my kids. The files that I have say have 3 I sets of twin brothers and sisters, and that my real grandparents were taking care of them in Missouri. I would appreciate any help. I need to open my case.THANKS

Hi Robert! I was adopted in San Diego. Add the following to all of Possum's ideas:

Have you contacted the agency that handled your adoption and requested your non-identifying information? You will receive some medical information/history up to the time you were born (grand parents, etc.)

Have you left a letter authorizing the release of your information with that agency?
Have you contacted the California's adoption registry & adoption information site?

And, believe it or not, I once called the hospital I was born in to ask for information. The person who answered asked me if my first mom's name is "M.J." - and IT WAS! I was SHOCKED. All the time I could have just called and gotten her name? May not work...but ya never know!

Call and ask for a copy of your birth records; or try looking for all births on that day. And try checking the local paper for birth notices (at the library archives).

Write to me if you'd like. With a little info, I may be able to add some ideas...
Good Luck!

ETA: Find a search group in your area.

I made 1st contact (with a 1/2 sib) within 3 months of sending my first letter (pre-internet! LOL) Met my first mom the following weekend. The only cost was a few dollars here and there for copies.

Courts don't like adoptees!! Sorry that you had to find that out the hard way. Apparently we aren't 'real' citizens. Pfffffft.

Here's some places to start the search -

First - add your details to the registries here
http://www.isrr.net/
http://registry.adoption.com/

Check here for information on your state records here -
http://adopteerights.net/
(click on the page marked 'Searchers' down the left hand side)
Apply for non-identifying info if you can - and also try to contact the original adoption agency if you know of them.

Check here for search help - and links to search angels -
http://www.adoptioncrossroads.org/

And check here for any support - it's the best online forum for adoptees I've found -
http://www.adultadoptees.org/

All the very best with your search.

getting your records open is not so likely right now.

adultadoptees.org is a great place for support and resources for a search.

Hi. I had this same problem. You need to contact a confidential intermediary. They cost around 350.00 and will contact your next of kin and see if they want to speak with you. That is the only way it works in most states. I was lucky as my birth mother thought about it and wanted to speak with me and I have learned so so much. I even have a sister out there somewhere from the same two parents of which again will cost 350.00 to find. It seems like it is all about the money, but for some people it is. You have to stay strong and remember... sometimes you learn things that you dont like and that are absolutely horrible.
Take care and good luck.
