Looking for biological parents?

I was born in 1980 in texas. Found out when i was 18 that i was adopted. I have my birth mothers name and that she was from St. Louis. I search her name on the internet from time to time to no avail. I would really like to start looking harder for her. Could anyone help me get started in the right direction.

adoption.com has a free registry:
http://registry.adoption.com/
Look up your birthday there and see if she has registered.
I found my natural mother there.

The book "Birth Right a Guide to Search and Reunion by Jean Strauss is an excellent starting place too.
Good luck.

I know a texas search angel who helps for free you can PM me for her email address.

http://www.blackbookonline.info has great name and address finders as well as free resources to search by state.

PM me if you need some help!

I would be searching marriage index's and newspaper annoucements, as well as finding the agency and state you were adopted into and signing a consent to release your identifying information so if your natural parents come looking they'll give them the information to contact you.

Have you talked to your parents yet? If not I would ask them everything they know and what agency or system they went through. Your parents are always the first ones I would go to because they have first hand knowledge of what happened. Now if you parents do not know or are not willing to help, then if you know your date of birth and where you were born look at the local birth announcements in the paper from that date. Usually found at the local library.

There is an organization called Parent Finders that assists adoptees and BPs with searching (www.parentfinders.org). They provide support and direction, they are widely recognized and well affiliated. The group started in Canada, but there are chapters in the US... but most importantly they are internationally affiliated AND they have a lot of GOOD information.... which is important for you right now since you are just starting.

Things you can do right away....
find out as much as you can from your adoptive parents things like your birth name(s), where EXACTLY you were born (ie the name of the hospital), any legal papers that they may have including your legal adoption certificate and any other related papers, information on the agency that handled your adoption. Ask for any information about your birth parents that would have be passed on to your adoptive parents.... many adoptees have luck finding a BP through a grandparent or aunt or uncle. Register with as many Post Adoption Registries as you can. Learn all you can about the adoption laws in Texas. Sometimes you can apply for additional information about your BPs from the adoption agency or state (usually contains info like descriptions, their ages, family details etc).

Once you have some info.... you can always try posting an ad in a newspaper where you were born or online.... it's a long shot, but sometimes it connects (this is how my birthfather found me)

Best of Luck to you. You are in my thoughts.
A couple of links for you to start...
