Madonna and 'the adoption'?
Find answers to your legal question.

Madonna and 'the adoption'?

Just to clarify: I don't really understand the adoption process in this Country (Britain), (having not gone through it) let alone in any other Country.
However, I may be wrong, but in this Country (Britain) the whole process takes into consideration the whole 'family unit'. Family unit being two adults playing the part of guardians (gay or straight). I'm only guessing (and it's not my opinion), but do the 'powers that be' frown upon the idea of a single parent applying for adoption? And the process is therefore much harder if a single parent were to apply?
So why therefore, can Madonna (a newly separated/divorced mother of children fathered by different men), find it so easy to advertise the fact that she is planning to adopt another child? Surely the whole process doesn't just rely on money? Isn't it rubbing it in the faces of the 'average' people out there who go through endless checks, interviews etc, etc, who may be rejected in the end?
Can anyone enlighten me, correct me or just assure me that it isn't all about money and status?
Thanks

The Big Cheese: that's sort of my point (in a convoluted way!), does it mean she's avoiding the UK and US 'governing bodies' because she knows she hasn't a hell's chance of adopting there?

Sorry - no.

It is ENTIRELY about money and status.

You try doing what she is doing and see how far you get.

Poor bloody child going to live with that crank and her macrobiotic living.

Throw her out of the country and send her back home.

By the love of god - do you have any coffee please?

You have in fact answered your own question and are quite correct.

If these celebs actually cared, they would sink some of their massive wealth into long term projects that would benefit all these displaced/orphaned children.

Sadly however, the relatives of some of these orphans on the African continent also often do not want the responsibility that orphaned children bring, so celebs and other well meaning individuals will seek to fill this childcare gap. There is also precious little help from the governments, churches and communities, but you will hear a lot of fine speeches from the senior figures, who of course want for nothing.

Poverty is an inconvenience for the rich and powerful, and is also an exploitable resource in their eyes. Orphaned children are often considered as worthless by these people.

My mother-in-law works with orphans in West Africa whose parents were killed during the various civil wars that have blighted the region over the last 20 years. She and many others do what they can, but their resources are limited, as this region gets none of the aid money raised from the various appeals that Bob Geldof, Bono and Co, have been involved in.

honest answers
Its all about money and she's got a lot of it.

It most certainly is all about the $$$$$$. Sorry mate.

The child has a family who are hoping to be reunited and raise her. Her grandmother is protesting but nobody is listening.

I fail to see how taking a child away is helping in any way shape or form. A little girl is about to lose her family, culture, language, heritage and identity because of some old bag's desire to adopt a child into her broken home.

I think it's about money and status. Who would let a single mother adopt a child when that single mother already has several children that are being brought up by nannies?

If I recall correctly Malawai does not allow single parents to adopt. However, I'm sure she's not going to let a little thing like a country's intercountry adoption law stop her.

SOme countries allow single parent adoptions. there is a whole international standard to adoptions that most countries have to live up to.

but yeah, in some situations single parent adoptions are allowed.

Britain and US both follow the Hague convention.

there are rules, and it can be legitimate sometimes.

So, although she might GO to a country that doesnt follow the Hague, she would never be allowed to bring a child BACK to a country that does. I am not foolish enough to think that wealth ad bribery work in many places, but I cannot see bribes working on the US, UK, Canadian, or Korean systems.

It's doubtful a 50 year old single woman with 3 kids would be able to adopt in the states, even if she has gads of money. Celebrities like Madonna have to go to impoverished countries to buy off officials and buy their new children. Mercy has a family who doesn't want her to be adopted, but that doesn't matter, she'll get what she wants because she's white with lots of money. I think it's sick.

You've answered the question yourself. She' is a newly divorced single parent and apparently it is all about the money. Why else is she getting the royal treatment to adopt?

me
well we all know no single parent stands more than a 1% of adopting in UK.
MADONNA adopting being this easy is just do to the fact she has money

an add on, i think adopting a child from Africa is the only correct thing in this whole story, yes there are tow sands of children waiting to be adopted in the UK, but none is starving or dieing of thirty or decease.
also if this country made it easier for normal people to adopt lots of people would not have to go abroad to do it.
i think single people and gay people are just as good parents as anyone else

The Big Cheese
Surely her Malawi adoption is causing more offence than anything else. Why can't she adopt a child in the UK, or the US? I mean she lives between the 2 so that would make more sense right?

It's wrong to adopt other children from other countries when her country is full of thousands of children who are in need of a home. And to take a kid from his/her's own culture and country is wrong.

Here comes another Angelina.

Would anybody else (someone who is not a star?) be allowed to adopt a child from another country and take them away from there native home people and culture. If madonna is so passionate about this child perhaps her family should move to malawi, also you cant tell me that there is no money involved and buying children is outlawed all over the world; I would be interested to hear what Mr Obama thinks obout an american citizen buying an African child.

I just watched a video clip on Yahoo and the narrator said she was adopting even though the laws in that country say one must be a citizen. I was not aware she had become a citizen....

Anyway, I think she may believe she is doing it for the right reasons....but who knows. When you have as much money as she has got, skies the limit and you can have everything you want!! Big house, big car, good looking (ex) husband, great career, many stories.....what next?? Oh yeah, another child from abroad....

But, who knows.....I don't hang out with Ma-gina, oh I mean Madonna, so maybe she is altruistic and giving of herself.

I could get really tacky, so will stop now.

I am most disturbed if the country is really making exceptions because of her celeb-status....

Processes are different everywhere. Here in Canada you can be single, married, gay or straight and still adopt. In (very few) places in the US you must be married to adopt and in all other areas you can be single.

In the case of Madonna she is adopting in accordance with the laws of the country where the children are. What ever their rules are, and what ever exceptions they may or may not choose to make, are up to them.

I miss the Octomom Questions!

I think that Madonna has a lot of money and will provide a nice life with lots of Nanny's for as many children as she feel likes. I think that growing up with Madonna and having all the attention and care from the nanny's is probably still better then a slow lonely death in an orphanage...

ETA*** My aunt was a Single Woman over 50 when she adopted two older children from Foster Care and my mother's neighbor was single, over 45 and lived in a Trailer House and she adopted as well. I really don't know why people seem to think blanket generalizations support their POV.
