Madonna and adopting?
Find answers to your legal question.

Madonna and adopting?

I've been seeing quite a bit lately about Madonna adopting another orphan from a third world country. It seems a lot of people are pretty upset by this. Why? I would much rather see a child raised in a loving home with basic necessities (although we know that child will have far more than that) than seeing him raised in an orphanage where he won't be getting all he needs. Your thoughts?

And what do you perceive as better? I'm not talking about cultural differences. Did you know that in Malawi seven out of 10 child deaths in are due to preventable causes such as malaria, diarrhea, pneumonia, anemia, malnutrition and neonatal causes. Malaria and pneumonia alone account for nearly half of those deaths. As for hired help (nannies), I think the third poster said it well. Working parents use daycares and nannies. Why is it wrong for adoptive parents to use them?

Some people are just completely ignorant about international adoption. I answered a related question a little while ago, and the ignorance was obvious in the answers.

First, there were those that see Madonna as an unfit parent. Why? Has she ever abused or neglected her children? Not that we know of. She has a past, all of us do. But this is NOW, not the past. Also, most of us know nothing other than the public persona and the media hype. That is usually NOT the actual person.

Second, there were those stating that they should not adopt internationally because there are plenty of children "here" that need to be adopted. Most of those people have not adopted at all, internationally or domestically, yet they choose to criticize someone else's choice. I guess they also think that the children "here" are somehow more worthy than others? Those people need to get over themselves.

Third, there are those that think that celebrities (and others) that adopt internationally are doign so because it is easier in other countries. That is NOT the case. You have to meet the requirements to adopt in your own country, the requirements to adopt in the country the child is from, AND additional requirements by ICE to bring the children back. There is MORE red tape to get through, not less.

Because Madonna has nannies, she should not adopt? Does that mean that parents (non celebrities) that utilize daycare should not adopt? How is that any different?

No, children do not need LV shoes or such, but noone other than the critics are saying that anyone used that as a reason. Did Madonna say "But I can give her LV shoes!". No.

With both of the cases of Madonna, after it became public that a celebrity ws involved suddenly there were family members 'wanting' the child. Do they actually want the child, or the fame now associated with the child and whatever they might 'get' out of it?

The thing with the child Madonna is wanting to adopt is that she has family that doesn't want to give her up. It was the same principle with the first one. The first child she adopted had a father that didn't want him to leave.

Yeah, when I think Madonna I think 'loving', I think Madonna.

Madonna=LOVE. Ha!

What does this child 'need', my dear? Louis Vuitton shoes? Travel in private jets? A childhood being raised by the hired help, i.e. nannies?

C'mon! Wake up and smell the coffee.

Children need family, not what Americans percieve as 'better'.

Not Adopted
The child's grandparents do not want Madonna to adopt. This child is not an orphan, she has a family. That is reason even to stop the adoption.

BTW, that orphanage is run by Madonna. Are you saying Madonna's very own orphanage is not providing for these children's needs? If that is the case, then the orphanage should be shut down.

I saw a video recently of a village style orphanage being set up in Malawi. The kids have an allocated mother to the house and go to school along with regular meals. (About 8 kids to a house.)
I'd love to see more of this sort of thing happening there as they have a different outlook when it comes to supporting family than we do in the west. A grandparent or an Aunt is more likely to raise a baby if something happens to the parents. However there are cases of babies being abandoned and it is more common. Those babies aren't likely to ever have a history of their family, nor even know their true birthday. But least they'll have a home. And who knows these kids could change the world as they grow up. The thing is there is more babies and toddlers than the orphange can handle. They need more homes and are trying to raise the money to build them.

At the end of the day no matter who she is- the adoption must be in the best interests of the child. She has to go to the local court so lets hope they put the focus on the child's needs not on her needs and wants.

I'm an international adoptive parent. What bothers me about Madonna's case is not the fact that she's adopting a child from a third world country.

I'm bothered that she doesn't go through the same process that the rest of us had to. Malawi has international adoption laws. They have a requirement that a prospective adoptive parent must spend a considerable amount of time in-country, before the adoption is done. (I'm thinking it's 18 months, off the top of my head, but I could be wrong.) With the first adoption, Madonna went to the courts and got an exception.

Malawi also does not allow single parents to adopt. Madonna is divorced. She is now a single parent. But again, she's petitioning the courts to make an exception for her.

It bothers me that it sets an example that anyone who wants to adopt overseas doesn't need to concern themselves with the intercountry laws. It bothers me that she makes it look like if you want a child, you just go right over and get one.

It *really* bothers me that she makes such a publicity stunt out of adoption. It *really* bothers me that someone just coming off a divorce is in no position to adopt anyway.

But I'm sure she can hire an army of caregivers.

Um yeah. Because being carted around by nannies while your mom shakes her cobwebbed crotch in people's faces around the world and kisses on Britney Spears is a great alternative to being raised by a dad and grandmother who wanted to parent you.

royce is taolly hot club by kody
