My husband is active duty Army, and we would really like to adopt. We have two boys right now. I really just don't even know how to get started. Who do we talk to? Is it difficult becuase of being in the military and moving a lot? How long does the process take? How much does it cost?

No answers from people who just want points for answering a question please. I would appreciate answers from people who know what they are talking about, not just an idea or opinion.

Adoptees have many issues and need stability. Change is often times very difficult for us. I suggest foster care adoption once your husband is in a permanent location. |

Actually you don't have to go very far. In the military there is a ton of help. If you live on base, go to your local benefits office. I think your get a $20,000 voucher, with legal advice. Start asking questions on base. If there were ever a "small world" it would be living on base. |

My wife (an army brat) and I were just discussing this the other day. I kinda go with Linny. It would be very hard for an adopted child to adjust anyhow, not to mention moving around a lot. It was hard for my wife to move around so much, and she isn't adopted. However, she did say that she new a lot of foster/adoptive parents who were in the service. So, it happens. Just think it through, okay? |

I was adopted while my parents were in the military. They had a lot of help thru the military, legal, personal references, help with immigration, probably a lot more help than if you did it outside the military. |
