Mixed race adoptions?

Are people in America open to adopting babies of mixed race? If so, how do you find them?

Yes, people in the U.S. at least are adopting babies and children of mixed race. If you are thinking of placing a child for adoption, please go thru a reliable agency. Then at least you will know that the adoptive parents have completed a homestudy and you can have a profile to look at. Generally, if you wish, you will be given the opportunity to select the type of family you would like for your child as well as the degree of openness you would like for the adoption. |

I would adopt a mixed race baby, as would many others I'm sure. A child is a child....period. I don't feel that a couple or single parent that is looking to adopt really has the right to be picky. EVERY child is deserving a loving home, a loving family....regardless of his or her race. |

I would adopt a baby of mixed race ONLY if I lived in a different area. My little town is 99% white and I wouldn't want to put a child through that. The would be like a black sheep. Everyone would look at them and criticize them. You know small town, small mind. They look at color and not at person. Not everyone but most. There are a lot of confederate flags around here. It is a really nice town but not for anyone else except any person not white in color. |

There is alot of racism in adoption - there is a great demand a 'healthy white infant' and people are willing to pay more for one
Agencies even have pricelists, did you know that? Healthy white infant = most expensive, mixed race = cheaper, African American = even cheaper (and sometimes listed as 'special needs'!!!) It's absolutely disgraceful the way children are 'marketed' by the Industry but they seem to get away with it |

Right here. I'm one and probably everyone I associate with on a daily basis. Why do you ask? |

You found another one. My husband and I wanted to become parents. It never crossed our minds to rule a baby out because of the color of its skin. One daughter is biracial and our newest daughter is Ethiopian. I've never liked the term "mixed race" biracial is better. Why do you ask? Is there something I can help you with? |

I adopted five children from birth, 43 years ago. They are all of mixed race. It was wonderful when they were children and it is more wonderful now that they are adults, and I have 7 beautiful grandchildren, with all ethnic backgrounds.
When we get together it is like a United Nations, and we have such love and joy between us.
I didn't worry about whether anyone else was open to adopting mixed race babies, I only knew what I wanted and I made the choice.
This was back in the 1960's when all the interacial tension was going on. I received hate mail, dirty looks, and I smiled all the way through it. I loved who I was and who they were.
Do it for yourself, if you choose to, not to go along with society.
Since all my adoptions were way back, I could not tell you now, where to start looking for interacial babies.
Good luck though, because if you do this, you will be the happiest mother ever. I was and still me. |

Most people who are open to any race child will take any race child/baby including mixed raced. In fact oddly enough there are those who might not be comfortable taking a full Asian or black Mexican etc. But will take child mixed with those races. I recall someone on here saying that the agency she went through had a birthmother black and there were like 8 couples willing to adopt if her baby was biracial(white/black), but none if it was just black. If I ever adopt I’ll be looking to adopt just mixed raced kids, regardless of their mixture.
Also now a days with more interracial couples you would probably have some people who would specifically want a mixed raced child. A white and black couple might want to adopt a mulatto. A white and Asian couple might want to adopt a Eurasian etc. Or even have a couple who are both mixed raced want to adopt mixed raced children. |

There are websites that tell you of mixed race babies and children that are awaiting adoption. In some casess, there are many children listed on the sites, so hopefully people are adopting them! Searching on line doesn't necessarily mean that you're linking up with a reputable person or agency, but if you're serious about adoption, attending an adoption seminar where there are experts present can help you find out how to adopt a baby of mixed race properly. Good Luck! |

Yes. You find them the same exact way you find any child that is up for adoption. When you fill out the adoption application is asks if you are open to adopting a child of mixed race or another race and if so, which races. Simple. |
