Mom and I are planning on adopting, but...?

Mom and I are planning on adopting a child... Well I wouldn't call 12 years old a child, but you know what I mean. Anyways, we live in a mobile park where the age limit is 55 years old, and that seems to be the land lady's biggest concern. I need some expert advice on what I can say to the land lady to help her ease that concern.

A few things strange about your post....
1. "Mom" and I, as in "Mother", as in a nickname for your wife? Or really your "Mom"? Because a mother and child cannot adopt. Only one adult or a married couple can adopt.
2. A 12 year old is most certainly a child! And to think otherwise is kinda missing the whole concept of childhood. Unless your "mother" knows a WHOLE lot more about children's needs and child development than you do, perhaps you need to consider getting a dog?
3. A child growing up in a mobile home park with senior citizens does not sound in the best interest of that child. When we become parents, we build and dedicate of lives to that child. We don't squeeze them into our life no matter how inappropriate or unfulfilled.
What to tell your landlady to ease her concern (and the concern of most of the parents reading this)? How about: "We are not adopting" as one of the options, unless you consider how you can devote your lives to the life of a child. Then, make the necessary changes, like moving to a child friendly area, and taking parenting/child development classes, and then reconsider.
Good luck! |

You should plan on moving. Retirement facilities are not for raising kids. |

get a big plant instead. A kid shouldn't be there. Old folk don't take to kids too well. Move out and get a life of your own. |

Are their other children in the complex? I know I was under 18 when my father was over 55, so I would assume there may be other parents living there with minor children. Or are their any grandparents raising grandchildren? That is also a fairly common concern.
I don't know if, legally, your landlady has any say about whether you have children or not. Check your rental agreement/and or community rules. |

i dont think adopting a 12 year old or adopting anyone is a good idea for u and your mom rite now, considering u live in a trailer park, i think it could actually be better for the 12 year old to stay where he or she is rite now where like, proper food can be provided and all that stuff, im not trying to say proper food cant be provided by u and ur mom or anything but i dunno, maybe wait a little bit
why are u planning to adopt anyways? its a great thing and all but it sounds a bit creepy sry |

It's great that you are adopting a child, especially a 12 year old, because they are sometimes forgotten when people see the cute little babies. How old are you?? Please email me back and I can give you my advice.. (Tell me how old you are) |
