My 5 year old asks about why I was Adopted what should I tell him?

I call my aunt and Uncle mom & dad they adopted me when I was 9 because I was abused by my parents
When my mom (aunt) was over the other day she was talking about my parents and my very observant
5 year old son over heard an got confused as to why I was talking about my parents when to his understanding I already know my parents because I call my aunt and Uncle mom & dad and he had ALLOT of questions
i don't want my son knowing everything right now how can I explain to him about why I don't have contact with my natural mother and father an why my mom and dad are actually my aunt and uncle

Just tell him that your natural parent's weren't able to look after you as well as they should have, and that they let you live with your aunt and uncle so you were still with your family, but you still get sad when you think about them, and that's why you don't have any contact.
There's no need to go into deep truths, he is still just 5.

Tell him the Truth. Your parents are your parents but you did not grow in your Mommy's tummy you grew in this woman's tummy. And this woman could not care for you properly and so you came to get a new Mommy an Daddy who could. When he gets older if you wish you can go more in depth of abuse. Right now telling him to much about the abuse my only serve to scare him.
This is how I explain to my son that my step father was not my bio dad.

Tell him the truth he will need to know it some time, just don't tell him anything nasty that might scare him, keep it simple till he is older, the sooner you tell him the sooner he will understand.

Now may be a perfect time to explain what a birth mother is and what a mother is, let him know that God gave you something special, two mothers, a birth mother and your mother.
He will probably ask at that point if he has two mothers, it may be a good time to tell him he does, tell him that she loved him so much that she wanted him to be raised by the parents God planned for him, which was very hard for her, and his birth mom thinks about him everyday and loves him very much. I think at this point its your only option other than dismissing the questions.
