My adoption papers don't have birthfather's name, birthday, ssn...now what?

Ok, I went through this same exact thing last year.

I went online and paid for U.S. Search. It cost me like $20 and I could use it for 24 hours.

Anyway, there were a bunch of people by my birthfathers name, so I basically just seeded out the ones that were no possibility. I knew he had 2 son, didnt know their names, so I looked for the names that appeared to have son that age. I also knew where I was born and that my birth mom and father both lived there at one time. This web site will tell you current addresses and past addresses. So I looked to see if there was any man by that name that lived in my birth town. And eventually. I also didnt know his exact age, but knew within at least a few years, so I looked for someone around that age. I found someone who matched all the criteria, I took the chance, called the guy I thought it was and sure enough it was him.

You know a little more than you think. Of course, you already know his name. But, you also know where he lived. You know his approximate age. These two items narrow your search down.

Several of the search services, like Intelius.com and Peoplefinders.com (under 10 dollars each) will give the names of previous towns in which a person lived. Say your father's name is Jack Straw and he was about 20 in 1978, and you knew he was living in Grand Rapids, MI when he and your mother were together. So, if you used one of these services and find a Jack Straw living in Muskegon, MI, but you see that he used to live in Detroit as well as Grand Rapids, you've narrowed the field. These services also give a date of birth for many listings. If you see that this person was also born in February of 1958, then you're on to something.

The thing about search is that sometimes you have to contact a number of people until you get the right one. This is especially so if a person has a common name. I contacted a several folks before locating the right J.S. when searching for my brother.

ask your birthmother she might know another way to get in touch with him ... maybe a family member or a place he used to work good luck

your birth mother should tell you no matter what your birth father is like.My baby is being given up for adoption and i know if my son comes to me and asks me about his father even though he isnt a good man i will do whatever it takes to give him a chance to meet him or atleast talk to him.

If you know your name and the county you were born, you should be able to get an original birth certificate, unless the records have been sealed. That should have the fathers name. Or, find the birthmother and ask her. Might be easier to find the birth mother.
Some people dont have birth fathers listed, like mine, when they are adopted, so you might not ever find out. Sorry.

if you know the name of the agency that facilitated the adoption then all you have to do is call them and ask for their file. In it will be all the information that you seek. Sometimes this cost a fee of upwards of $50 but most of the time it is free.
