My friend wants to know if you can sign a kid over to another family with out adoption?

Ok so her mom and dad are pretty mean people her life is krap and i would say what all goes on but she would get mad i guess lol idk but anyway she wants to know if she can be signed over to my family with out having to go through the whole adoption thing........ so if yall can help us out we would be very thankful! also if you could tell us how much it would cost to adopt her to if we could not sign it over or something

and right now she lives smack in the middle of nowhere. to even go to one of her friends house its 20mins and she only has 3 real friends left that have not turned there back to her... and her mom said if she really wants to be put up for adoption or something she would do it.... but we are just wanting to know what it would cost and how long it would take.

You would need to speak to a lawyer to find out what is possible in your state. However, anything that you do (other than just allowing her to live with you) would require some type of legal proceeding if she is a minor. Keep in mind though if she lives with you without any type of legal agreement, her parents will still be responsible for things like medical insurance, etc.

Good luck to all of you.

Yes it's called Temporary custody or even get a notarized paper saying the mother of this child is signing over rights for a certain amount of time and that is legal proof if it is notarized. Or call a lawyer in your local area

I agree, if all parents involved allow, she should just move in with your family for a while, however long that while ends up being. Later on (if she is still quite young and if everyone is comfortable with it), your parents can try to gain legal guardianship of her.

This answer this 100% correct. I went to live with my grandma when I was 15 and my mom signed over temp custody of me to her. It allowed her to enroll me in school, have me placed on her insurance, and have me medically treated. It cost only 10$ to for my mom to write the letter transferring custody and having it notarized.

it may be messy but i know that your family can go through the courts to get the child signed over to them, but it means that the childs parents have no perntal responsability over the child, that and all the benifits like tax credits etc get signed over to

Well I have a nephew whose mom sighed custodial/guardianship papers over to us. It was done in just a matter of days.

Even if it is "in the family" it is still considered adoption. You have to go through the paperwork and court. I was adopted by my Aunt...it is alot cheaper to adopt a family member.
Good Luck

basically she wants to have a different legal guardian. I'm not use if adoption is the best word for it but I do know that it NOT just a piece of paper that you SIGN.. its a process it takes a bit of time, someone maybe a judge or social worker will have to make sure that the home she is going to is "FIT" I would start by having your parents or whoever would be taking of legal guardianship... call department of social services and start form there... HONESTLY THOUGH, I think it's a long shot... every family has problems, that doesn't mean you go get a new one. legally I'm not sure it will ever change!

If her parents are willing to sign over custody to your family it would only cost a couple hundred dollars to do it legally. You can go down to your county courthouse and ask them for the paperwork to transfer custody of a minor. Have everyone fill out the paperwork and then take it back to the court to have it filed.

No ..that's illegal...however if your Mom and Dad are willing to have her, and her parents don't mind, there is nothing to keep her from living at your house....
