I have a friend whos child is in foster care. their child has been there since dec 11th of 2007. hes a very cute boy. he just turned 2 now.
first off, the mother says that all she did was tell the cousler that she was depressed and they came and took the child away.
But i heard from other people that, she told them she was depressed, couldnt parent and drank a 5th a day. and thats when they came and took the child away? which sounds more true. (the father was in jail at the time for probation voilation)
second, is they gave her and the father a huge list of things to do to get the child back, and she keeps not doing them, and shes failed afew drug drops. they go to court every 3 or 6 months to check up.
the father- doesnt go to his aa program or na program, he tries to make it but only does about half the time.
she was doing good but failed her drops afew times, but goes to all the a a programs, and has a full time job, and is a student now,.
hes now been in foster care for about 15 months, and hes 2 years old. my other questions are- when do they stop giving the parents a second chance? could this child very well be adopted? for the last 15 months they only see the child one time a week in a building for an hour.
second question is- the mother and father, are both expecting children by different people. they are both due within a month of each other sometime in june and july.
whats going to happen to those babys? and the 2 year old?

my friend who had her child taken away has drugs in her system to fail a drop for the courts with her child in the system right now. she is due in june.
the mans other baby which is due in july, the mother has 2 other children that never had a CPS case and doesnt do drugs.

As far as the chances they are givin that's up in the air. My son's parents had 5 years of chances - one would do good while the other wasn't - back and forth they went. Another foster child that I had living with us for a while (he went home to daddy) his mother just kept popping out children as soon as one was taken - she has a total of 6 children all with different fathers and all were taken within 1 year of birth if not straight from the hospital. Since she has a child in care the state could very well come in and take the child - they would need as little of proof as her failing to do a drug test at the hospital - more than likely they will test the babies because of the situation.
Tell your friend to get off her @$$ and do her case plan - in the end she will loose if she doesn't! |

She needs to talk to her CASA and/or CPS social workers, they will be able to tell her what else, if anything she needs to do. Given that she has already been given an extension (usually bio parents get 12 months) I think it is likely they feel she is making progress. |

I'm not sure what will happen, but what would be BEST would be for the little one to be adopted by a loving, stable family who would give him a wonderful home.
When I think about the parents of this child, I am reminded of one of my pet rabbits that didn't know how to care for their litter of babies - if those two were my rabbits, I wouldn't let them breed! |
