My husband and I are thinking of adoption?

Is it hard to adopt a baby? does anyone know the procedures? we aren't able to have anymore children of our own.

It's not as easy as a lot of people make it out to be. My husband and I have been hoping to adopt for a long time now, and we aren't picky as some people would call it about what we want because we just want to parent a child that needs a home, and we are with our second agency because the first one did nothing and jan of 09 will be 3 years that we have been waiting with this agency. i have considered dropping them also, but dont want to start over again and lose the money that we have paid them.

As far as the process, be ready to have the case worker in every aspect of your business and make sure this is absolutely what you want and that you can be in it for the long haul because it's no picnic.

If you adopt out of foster care it's free and it doesn't take as long as you might think. Once a child is placed in your care it could take as little as 8 months to about 1 year...depending on court dates and such. There are literately 1000's of children in care who need good homes and if your seriously thinking about it - this would be a good place to start.

It can go very quickly or it can take a long time, our experience was a very good one and took just over 3 months from the time we started to the time I was holding our son. From what I understand, it takes longer to adopt domestically if you already have biological children. You do not have to use an agency in your state, (with the exception of the homestudy). The average wait in our state is 3 years.

Regardless of the process you follow (agency adoption, private adoption, international adoption, foster care adoption....) your ability to adopt a baby is always limited by the availability of babies in need of homes. There are many many more children who are older who are in need of homes so I would encourage you to broaden your age ranges to include these children. If you stick with the "infant" qualifier then you could be years waiting to adopt but if you open up to the possibility of a toddler or even up to 4-6 years old your wait times will be much less.

Too many people get stuck on the idea of infant adoptions to the exclusion of other children and as a result these wonderful children go years without adoptive families and homes. Not only do the children lose out but the potential families lose a wonderful opportunity as well. In both of our adoptions we did not limit ourselves to infants although that is the age range we were matched with (8 months old for the first and newborn for the second). It's really just fate in all cases so why limit yourself to such a narrow age range?

Give it some thought and if you have any other questions on procedures and such drop me a line through my profile. We've adopted both internationally and domestically through foster care and in both cases it took less then 6 months for placements (a bit longer to finalize the adoptions obviously).

Bless you!! Adoption is a wonderful experience!

Honestly, yes it can be incredibly difficult depending on the route you take. Most people want to adopt a baby, that involves private adoption usually through an agency. Not only is it ridiculously expensive, but the waiting lists are quite long whether you go through the US or internationally. Plus, its an emotional roller coaster being told you have a baby, then you lost it to another couple because something was wrong with your case/paperwork, etc.
If you want an older child, adopting through the foster care system is a LOT less expensive and usually less time consuming & emotionally draining.

Well i think you should adopt...And its not hard at all if you dont have a criminal backround...But every child needs a family and someone to love right? If it was up to my i would adopt them all just to show them the love and comfort that they have always wanted!!! i feel that what more can i child without a mother want.....but a FAMILY♥♥
