independent/private adoption. Of course we will have our attorney by our side throughout the whole process and everything will be legal, we are just scared of being scammed. Does anyone have any knowledge of places(maybe online??) where birthmothers are looking for people to adopt their baby not through an agency? I realize this may not be a possibility and we are prepared to go through an agency, I am just trying to find out all of my options right now. Thanks!

Why not go through foster care, and give a home to a child who NEEDS one? Often, women who give their children up for adoption could parent with a little extra help, and you have to expect that a woman will change her mind after giving birth. If you adopt through foster care, you can avoid all of that, along with knowing that you adopted for the RIGHT reason (i.e. providing a home for a child who needs one, rather than fulfilling your own desires). |

be very careful. whether you go with a private adoption or god forbid an agency. my g/f gave our daughter up without telling me a thing. i found out when i got served literally days before she was born. i contested of course. my daughter has lived with these people since birth and had bi weekly visits with me since she was 10 months old. she is now 19 months and trial is coming up. i believe in adoption and that it can and is suppose to be a good thing but the more i research and the more my case goes on i see more nightmare than dream. however you decide to adopt make sure the father is named and consenting before getting to far in and if the agency or anyone assures you termination of the father is a foregone conclussion RUN. i feel bad for the family that tried adopting my daughter but as a dad i can honestly say sending them home from court to an empty house will be one of the best days of my life because thats the day i finally get to tuck my daughter in and give her a kiss goodnight |

Looking "online" for adoption will be leaving yourself open to scams. I would never recommend using the internet to adopt.
When it comes to adoption all parties should be meeting face to face. Ask plenty of questions. And go with what your gut is telling you.
Please take the time while your preparing for adoption to read as many books about the experiences of adoption through the eyes of adoptees. Your child will have many questions as time passes and you must be prepared to answer them truthfully. Good Luck. |

Don't adopt on the cheap. Agencies (reliable honest ones) are there for a reason. To protect everyone involved.
Do not ask around as suggested by one poster. I do not see how that can be the right way to bring a new life into your heart |

Adoption works when it is done the right way. The way you are wanting to do it is in my eyes, a farse.
Do things properly through an agency. You will get support and advice.
Best interest of the child. |

Private adoptions are possible but very risky. It's good that you are scared of being scammed: you should be! Nefarious people are out there who would gladly take advantage of your desire to parent a child in order to get to your bank account.
I would strongly suggest going through a licensed, reputable agency rather than a private adoption. And using the internet is asking for trouble.
Just my 2 cents |

American Adoptions is very reputable and nationwide. Call 1-800-Adoption to get an info packet. |

i really dont know too much about adoptions, but i do know that a lot of states differ in their laws regarding natural birth parents rights in taking the children back. here in PA, the natural birth parents have 6 months to decide if they want their children back. i know a friend of mine n her husband, that actually went through an adoption agency in Utah, because there the parents only have 24, or 48 hours to reclaim their child. of course theres waiting lists and so on, but it might be good to check out different state laws, to see where it may be best to adopt a child from, that would make you feel comfortable, just in case you cant find a independant adoption. |

The best way for private adoption is to tell every person you know that you are wanting to adopt. Especially young 20's who often times have a pregnant friend/sister, etc., who can't keep a baby. My 18 year old son's female friend helped us find our birthmom (a 27 year old). Good luck! |
