My husband and I would like to adopt.?

My husband and I would like to adopt.?

I am 22 years old and my husband is 24. We have been married for 4 years. We have been trying to have a baby for almost two year and recently found out that our chances are slim. We have $35,000 saved for adoption. We would consider international adoption but would really love to adopt a baby at birth from th US. Could someone tell me the age requirements to adopt a newborn here in the United States?

Hi! Since I am an adoptee, I would like to share some information with you. You may fall on the young side of the standards.

Have you considered adopting through Foster Care? The cost is relatively inexpensive, and they are the only children who need homes.

Please take a look at these links. They will help you and your husband learn about how adoption will most likely affect the child.

Please do not consider International adoption.
International adoption if full of fraud, corruption, and it is the SAME as human trafficking.

Just because a child is available for "adoption" in a foreign country, doesn't make the adoption legal, or moral.

Please adopt from the United States. Don't take the child away from their heritage + their family. Try Foster Care - it's free and that is where there are children who need homes are and save the 35,000 for his / her college tuition.

Typically, 21. But remember, they look at other things, too. By the sounds of it, though, you guys are fine financially and otherwise. Good luck!

You should start contacting agencies, social services, and even adoption lawyers. They can tell you what all will be required. You are both old enough and have been married long enough. Don't let anyone tell you that infant adoptions are wrong, because they are not, if a mother decides to put her baby up for adoption there is no reason that someone shouldn't adopt them. Also most of the "reading" material so many push on here are a one sided view of adoption. And not a very good one either, most of them don't tell of the good that adoption does or how many of us are truly happy with our adoptions and the way our lives have turned out. So do your research talk to people who actually work in the field as they can truly tell you what your cost will be and how to go about starting the process. good luck

If you look for your state in the following document it will tell you the legal requirements: http://www.childwelfare.gov/systemwide/laws_policies/statutes/partiesall.pdf.

If it says "adult", that generally means 18.

We adopted a five week old infant from an agency in Illinois. She's ten years old now. We have a fully open adoption and we wouldn't have it any other way.

Go to ProjectCuddle.org. From what I understand you pay lawyer and home study fees and thats it. Check it out!

You are old enough and you have been married long enough for most adoption agencies (some have different requirements than others.) Also it is good to have enough money saved as sometimes there are extra costs associated with adopting. You should call around to agencies and see what their requirements, costs, typical wait, etc. is. Then you can see which is the best fit for you guys as a couple. Homestudies can take as long as 3-4 months to get all of the paperwork done and back from background checks. So it is good to start getting things going. Make sure you look into the agency with the local better business bureau. There are disreputable agencies out there and they can cost people both financially and emotionally. Get as much information as you can get and good luck:-D

Russia has a LOT of kids in orphanages. They usually have twenty kids sleeping on one bed. Those kids have a bad life and are usually trafficked or used as drug mules if they don't get adopted after a certain age.
I think the fee is around $20,000.

When I graduate college; I am definitely adopting. I command you and your husband for being so amazing. Don't listen to criticism from people especially those who've never adopted and don't plan too.

Good Luck, I think China is your best bet and don't listen to all the grief people are gonna give you on this...
