so i found what i thought to be a perfect house in a small town far away from the city i lived in!
i always wanted to be a small town girl and when my grandma died and left me 70,000 i thought it would be a great investment. keep in mind i live in michigan where you can find foreclosed houses for as little as afew thousand dollars.
they wanted 60,000 for my house (mortgage company) and i offered them 20! they came back and said they'd take 30,000 for it. I said deal and paid for it.
for 30,000 the house is crappy. (duh) and i had this dream and plan to fix it up so nice but ofcourse i had to redo all the walls, and the plumbing and the electricity and everything else. I spent 20,000 on it so far and it still is a piece of junk!
my neighbors loved me and brought me over cookies and popsicles and caramel apples when i had the money. now that they know im broke, they dont talk to me, complain about my fence and crappy garage and tell me how to plant flowers!
what can i do for them to like me without money?
why do they have to be so mean?
i tried so hard and my house dream is crushed and now im a town outcast.

There are so many ways of fixing up a house inexpensively. We bought a house and are fixing it up, and have done the walls, the flooring, the ceilings, the kitchen cabinet tops and some of the cabinets, and have invested less than $3000, not including time and labor.
By keeping the home neat, it will attract better neighbors, which can keep your home value up. Also, neighbors who only liked you because you had money aren't friends at all, and you deserve better friends.
Contact me if you'd like a better friend, and if you ever need advice on how to do home improvement projects cheap. By going to stores like Home Depot, they often have classes on how to do things so you can learn inexpensively. Many times, you can get stuff at auctions, ebay, and overstock lumber stores (aka discount building supplies), where they have stuff on clearance, and where you can get stuff a lot cheaper. They might not have enough to do the whole house, but try complimenting one room to another with color schemes in neutral colors. Things like curtains can be picked up on clearance sales. I got mine for $7.00 a pair on sale at Fred's Pharmacy (a chain we have in Arkansas).
Remember, your dream isn't crushed. It's just taken a setback. Learn from this, and go forward and don't look back. Do one project at a time, like baby steps, and they will get done. I know, I'm about to sell our little house for twice what we paid for it. |

If you think they're man now, just wait 'til they find out how what you paid will effect their home's value.... Then you'll see mad.... perhaps that's what happened.
Their anger should be towards those who didn't pay their mortgage in the first place, not you. |

Just be yourself, be neighborly, and if they don't like you, tough; you'll make other friends... and your house will become a home worth loving. Patience.
