I was an adoptee and found my biological mother and father but am wanting to pursue finding my original birth certificate or at least and legal documentation stating my biological mother gave birth to me or has something to that extent. My adoptive parents told me that they had my birth certificate changed to their names, which means there has to be an original somewhere right?? I mean, it may not be a birth certificate per say but there has to be SOMETHING with her name on it stating that she gave birth to me right?? Now my question is, how do I go about getting this information. What is the process I have to take to get there? Any help is appreciated thanks.

It depends in which state your adoption was finalized. Almost every adoptee's birth certificate is amended once their adoption is finalized. Our first parents names are removed, and replaced with our adoptive parents' names.
Ask them which agency or lawyer handled your adoption. Register on every reunion registry. This is a good one: http://www.plumsite.com/isrr/
There are others out there, just google "adoption reunion registry". It is important that you have the correct date of birth, agency, and hospital if possible. The agency may be able to give you additional information regarding your first Mom.

If you were born in one of the six States where adoptee rights activists have been successful you can get you original documents. Otherwise join the fight for equality. We'll get there!
Edit your question to say where you were born and adopted and I'll give more accurate, state-specific guidance, or go to the 'searchers' section at the website below and click on the relevant State for the current laws and access info :)
I know my natural parents too and we are still denied access to the original birth records. It's ridiculous! |

That's a really good question and I hope you get some good feedback that is helpful. I don't know because I wasn't adopted but I do hope you find what you are looking for. Oh and just out of curiosity why are you looking for it? What has you so interested in it?? Just wondering.. |
