On Adoption?

Hey i know im young but when im older im planning on adopting a child. i don't know why other than the fact that there is no reason to bring in another child in to this world while another one has lost a home or parents. What are we gonna do about all the other children in the world??( does that make sense??)
Is this a good idea?? I heard the adoption process is grouling, but i think it would be worth it in the end.

Please, your opinions would be very appreciative.

It does make sense, but the question to ask yourself is WHERE you want to adopt from. The adoption process from any country is expensive and time consuming. If you're looking to adopt to rescue a child, I would recommened doing it from another country, or looking into older children here that are in orphanages and are apart of the "system". You may not be able to adopt a newborn infant, but the older children are the ones that need our help the most.
I could be wrong, but I'm not sure you can adopt in the states w/out having medical problems in regards to conception. And there are SO many people on waiting lists to adopt here in the states, it could take years.

Good reason to adopt. I agree although I am foster/adopting for other reasons.

alison.meredith13 - You should be ashamed of yourself. An adopted child would get your name. All you showed by your post was your ignorance.

don't think about having kids until you are done being one yourself

I think if you are looking at adoption from a humanitarian approach there are other ways to help more children with the amount of money it would take to privately or domestically adopt one through an agency. Foster care is where to look if you're dead set on offering your home to someone who REALLY needs one.

Our nation is in a great shortage of homes that help mothers keep their children while receiving education and training for jobs to support their children. If you have it in you to change the shape of Americas mothers and their children, then that is the direction I would take if I were you.

I guess I have to disagree to a point with you. It is fine to decide not to build your family by becoming pregnant, but please don't go into adoption thinking your are "saving" a child or giving them a "better" life. If you do want to help children, there are a lot of other ways. Both of my children are adopted and the oldest is 2 years old. They have both already given me so much more than I could ever dream or hope to give them. I also adopted newborns in the US, so I am well aware of the fact that there are a lot of families out there who would have been honored to call my boys "son". Once our kids are older, we are talking about adopting another child, but an older child. We are still several years out, so haven't even talked about domestic or international. If we do adopt an older child, I already know that once again, he or she will give me much more than I will be able to give them.

I am too also young but I am thinking about not having kids and just adopting because as you said many kids are without homes and the world is already overpopulated.
As long as you are willing to meet the adoption agencies requests (having locks on your doors, having fire alarms, etc.) Then you should easily be approved.
It would be very worth it in the end because you are giving a child a life that they wouldn't have been able to have.
Like the other answerer said it is easier to adopt a child from another country as they have more available and have less restrictions. Also you could consider fostering a child before deciding to adopt them.
