My brother and sister (22 months younger than me) were adopted by our grandfather/step grandmother when I was 4 and they were 2. I was kept by my mother, raised an only child. We had no contact for the next 16 years. We've been reunited within the last year. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I can speak from only observation. I am a first mother to an 18 mo old little girl and a mom to a 5 yr old girl as well. My older daughter was 3 1/2 when I surrendered her baby sister at birth. Eighteen months later, after lots of talks and numerous counselling sessions, I have a very hurt and confused little girl who just cannot understand why her baby sissy went to go live with a different mommy and daddy. It's a complete mind screw for her. I hate seeing her so hurt and frustrated over it and I wish like hell I had never done it. The couple and I had webcam chats once a week, the girls actually "talking" to one another (well, one talked, the other babbled). Then out of the blue, the adoptive parents send a letter stating that the "visits" would stop and they were only going to send pics once a year and I was never to make any reference to the girls being siblings in any further correspondence with them. Now M is even more angry and hurt about the situation. Even tho we are not in the best place right now, I would give anything to erase her suffering, anything to have that little girl in my arms and none of this ever happened.
I really hope your reunion was good with your brother and sister. I can only hope that the girls have the bond I tried to hard to maintain. No one had the right to strip that bond from them.

I adopted my son, and his first mom asked me to adopt again 10 months later. After placing the baby for 3 days, she changed her mind. She also left her older son with his 60 year old, alcoholic father. I'm curious also how other people's reactions will be to this. |
