Overview of Arkansas Adoption Information
The agencies are required to compile non-identifying genetic, health and social history of the birth family to make it available to the adoptee along with post-adoption information birth family members may have added to the file. Adoptive parents and adoptees may have this information after the adoptee reaches 18.

Ark. Stat. Ann 9-9-501 et seq.
UPDATE: Confidential Intermediary system now in place.
Arkansas has a Mutual Consent Voluntary Adoption Registry. Individual birth family members related within the second degree (defined as biological siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents of the adoptee) may register for a possible reunion. There is a one-hour counselling requirement.

The State Department of Human Services maintains an adoption registry for DHS placements. Licensed voluntary agencies also may establish and maintain registries. The DHS registry is a mutual consent registry in which both parties must be registered before identifying information can be released. Adopted adults age 21 or older, birth parents, and individuals related within the second degree may register. Before release of information, parties requesting information are required to have 1 hour of counseling.

try adoption.com you can search by your b-day and place you were born. But you are you supposed to be 18 or have your parents search for you. Dont worry about them making fun of you thats life sweetie. As lond as you know you have a good home and good adoptive parents thats all that maters. If they treat you right who cares about their age? Kids are cruel and alot of times jelous. Mabey lets call him "billy" makes fun of your parents age because he knows you were adopted and your loved and have a good life. Maybe "billy " is jelouse cuz when he goes home he has an alocohalic abusive father and a crazy mom. So making fun of you makes his life seem better. Im not saying everyone is like this just an example keep your head up kiddo everything will work out in due time!

The best thing is to ask your parents they might have information that can help you out.
Just brush off anyone who makes fun of you for such a petty reason. The truth is that kids will find any reason to poke fun of someone. If you have parents who love and care for you their age is irrelevant. There are even kids who have older biological parents, I recently read an article about a man who was 70 and had a 13 year old son, and that was his bio son.

Also I would be prepared that since you are a minor some of the information may not be available due to your age. If you can find your natural mothers name you might be able to easily find her if she had you at 14 or 15 then this year she should be 27 or 28 would not surprise me if she has a myspace or face book account.

Please be careful placing such a request on an open site such as this. Anyone could answer you and take advantage of your situation. It is natural to wonder about your birth parents (especially at your age). I suggest you go to your (adoptive) parents and ask them to share the information with you. They would be the most logical and safest people to go for answers. I am sure they love you despite their ages. You don't mention that they are "bad" parents. If your only objection is that they are "old" then they are doing pretty well. Please don't romanticize your birth parents. It seems that you already have exactly what you are looking for. They adopted you, care for and love you. It really doesn't matter how old they are. My husband is the youngest of 6. He has a sister my mom's age and his parents are my grandparents age. That doesn't matter. He feels loved and he was well cared for. Your birth parents gave you up for whatever reason. They were not there when you were sick, needed help with homework or a ride to an after school activity. They didn't cry with you when you were sad or rejoice when you took your first steps or learned to ride a bike. Your adopted parents are the ones who did those things.

I do not mean to preach. I just don't want you to set yourself up for a big disappointment. I hope your parents will share the information you need to know.

Best wishes to you.

You should be grateful that you have parents that love you and care for you and are willing to do all they can at their age!!! You sound partially ungrateful for having a home for 11 years and partially upset/confused as to why your birth parents let you go.
Let me tell you something. My husband was adopted as a baby. His mom and dad (adoptive) were in their 30's when they adopted him. His birth mother was a deaf/mute that had been raped. She would never have been able to care for a baby. His mom (adoptive) told him that she'd understand if he wanted to contact his birth mother. You know what he said? You are my mom. You raised me. That's all that matters.

Now, I realise all children/adults that have been adopted have different situations and different views on being adopted. Some kids are extremely happy to be in a forever home, others are still p.o.'d at mom for giving them up (or being a druggie/alcoholic/abusive/etc). Some don't want to know, others do.

Do your parents (adoptive) know that you want to find your mother? If not, perhaps you should tell them. They can help you if you really want it. They know where you came from and MAY know who your mother is or where she is or can find out. Otherwise you have to be 18 in order to find out anything legally.
