Private adopters...how did you find your child?

If you are trying to adopt through foster care, perhaps you need to widen your search area and look into children who are in other areas. I don't know what your personal limitations are on what kind of child you will accept/what kind of issues you are willing to commit to, but perhaps loosening your personal "ideals" would help you find match. Are you open to special needs children?

I agree with MamaKate. Here's the thing- your family needs to be the right match for the child. Adoption is supposed to be about what is best for the CHILD.

I gave Manda thumbs down. I find it degrading that people would search for a child through google search. It's so desperate. Im sorry, but if you don't have the money or requirements to go through an agency, maybe you should take "No" for an answer. Sort of like, "There's your sign..." It's just wrong on so many levels.
I also gave her a thumbs down because she hunts for babies on YA, too.

My husband and I were determined to find a child on our own so that we wouldn't have to pay the large agency fees. I was still using the agency but keeping my eye out ya know. Well I found a women on a google search that was looking for adoptive parents. I was a little skeptical because ya know of all the scams. I checked it out and made sure everything was legit. I was fortunate to find one but do be careful because we did find a women who was scamming potential adoptive parents for money only. We learned to be cautious real quick after that. Anyways, after lots of birthmom searches online we found one that was real. We are in the process of finalizing the adoption now! The baby by the way was 11 months at the time, not a pregnant mom like the first woman we were talking to.
Just be careful and good luck, if you do find a potential birthmom be real cautious ( I have a lawyer friend who I checked with throughout the process before I decided to commit to it being real)
