Question About Two Parent Adoptive Families?
|
I've been wondering about those who preach that only a two parent family will do.
If they adopt a child and subsequently divorce; do they then place that adopted child up for adoption by another two parent family?
Ought they practice what they preach?
Just sayin'

I was given up for adoption because my mother was not married.
Shame and society - and an awful grand-mother - all contributed.
My adoptive father died tragically before my first b'day (just days before).
I essentially lived in a single parent household until I was 15 - when my a-mum remarried.
Pffffttttt to the single parent thing.
I think one alone can parent - BUT - the child still needs to be allowed contact (if possible) with ALL their family - or at the very least - be allowed to know and talk about them without fear or retribution.
A child would probably prefer a two parent home.
(my a-mum had a hard time raising three kids alone - two parents make for a somewhat less stressful household - in most cases)
But a child can still survive well in a one parent household - especially if they are loved and well cared for. |

The AP/adoption worker who "facilitated" the adoption of my son used the concept of the 2 parent family as the only acceptable family. I was one of those *gasp* unwed mothers in 1984. I've found a recent comment she made on an AP blog that, hey, one parent is all that's really needed. So happy to know that my loss was predicated on her belief that wasn't really grounded in any kind of reality anyway.
I wonder about this attitude also when regarding all of the expectant mothers or women who've had little ones at home and tragically learn of their husband's death while serving his country. Would the adoption reps expect them to hand the babes over? I'm sure some of them would. |

Welcome to the world of double standards and hypocrisy. For my way of looking at it, a good home is a good home...period. |

I've wondered that too. (I'm not myself particularly devoted to the idea that families must have two parents in the home, whether adoptive or biological.)
It would be hypocrisy if they kept the child after a divorce-- or for that matter, if one parent died. However, I still prefer that to practicing what they preach... the last thing an adopted and/or bereaved child needs is to be tossed into yet ANOTHER home.
I do wish they'd see the irony, though. |

Good point. I think they, like many others, are only interested in the arguments that suit them when it suits them. |

Are talking you about the government dept that set up the laws and rules relating to what an adoptive family should be?
Since when did politician practice what they preach? |

Yeah right! Same as if they would never expect a mother to relinquish if the father was tragically killed.
I have often wondered this too... |
