Question about Intl Adoption Fingerprinting?

All members of a family over 18 must be fingerprinted for an international adoption.

What happens if one member is unable to have their fingerprints taken? Is there a way to work around this, or is this even a requirement at all?

Thanks for all the responses!

We did not have this issue, but some of our friends did. They were caring for her elderly grandmother (94), who was bedridden because of a severe stroke. The grandmother was unable to make the journey to another city (as the CIS fingerprinting stations are not in all cities). They were told that there was no way around this. If you're adopting internationally, it is an important and necessary part of the Hague application.

We had to have every adult in the home fingerprinted for a domestic adoption as well, it was part of the homestudy requirements and the prints were used to run FBI Criminal background checks. We went to our local police department and had them done.

Why would someone be unable to get fingerprinted?

I've done both an international adoption and a domestic adoption through foster care and never had to submit finger prints for any of them. Maybe thats just us up here in Canada. A standard criminal records check was sufficient but then again our national criminal records system is all centralized in one database overseen by one agency.

Know how the finger printing system works as well as the adoption system I'd imagine that if the rule is that you need everyone done....then you need everyone done and you will have to wait till the last person is available.

If the person who needs the prints is temporarily out of the area, have them done when they get back. If they are doing something like serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, have the MPs there do the prints and send them in officially where you need to have yours sent. Other then that, you will have to wait.

We adopted domestically and everyone in the household had to be fingerprinted. Why would a person not be able to have them taken? I don't want to think the reason would be that they would be hiding something.

It's a requirement. How is it possible that all the other members of a household are able to have their fingerprints taken, but one member can't ride in the car with you to the same place, put their fingers on the same pad, and send in the paperwork? Which part makes it impossible? No, you can't get around requirements for adoption, and you shouldn't try. They're there for a reason.

ETA: Heather, that was EXACTLY my thought!
