Should I become a Foster Parent?
Find answers to your legal question.

Should I become a Foster Parent?

I am a 29 year old single female with a small 3 bedroom house and I work full time (8:30a-5:30p).

I feel sort of a calling to Foster but am not sure if I should go through with it or not because I want to make sure that I have enough to give to a child. Do you think that by working full time, I would have enough time to share with a child? Also is it a disservice to the child to be in a single "parent" home rather than living with a couple?

(I am constantly reading other related posts to try and figure out if this is something that I should do, I really feel like I should but at the same time am having second thoughts, I guess I am a little scared.)

Just a Mom
Why not just go to the classes and see? In Missouri, they are 9 weeks long, so that is plenty of time to see if this is for you or not.

And I don't think that there is anything wrong with single parents.

i think your 'nerves' are a good thing. you don't take it lightly. this is a good thing.

fostering is great- those are kids who NEED homes.

I think it's always a great thing to do! As long as you are financially and emotionally stable.

You would need to look into some things first such as childcare after school and school holidays but I think that's the sort of hours most parents work so wouldn't be much different.

As for being a single parent - I am sure its better than what the child had at home, but you would need to remember some of these children would have had a particularly ruff time so might be a bit troubled - and would you be able to deal with this?

Good luck & well done if you go ahead with it! x

It seems like you're able to be a good provider for a child. I say yes, foster a child. There are so many children who need homes. Be really sure if you want to foster. Make sure you can provide up until that child is 18 or older. :D

As for work, you can work your way around it. And there's nothing wrong with being a single parent. It's just helpful if you have someone to help you raising a kid.

Have fun! Good luck!

The fact that you are asking this question makes me see you are not ready... Good luck.
