So is it really that hard to adopt?

All i ever hear is about how hard it is to adopt children in this country, and how much it costs. But is it really that complicated and expensive? I wouldn't mind fostering first, and Im not really interested in going through a private adoption agency... I was just wondering. Has anyone adopted a child from the US? and if so, how did it go? Would you do it again? Are you happy with the child you received? ANY ADVISE!?

ONLY serious answers, and preferable from someone that has adopted or knows someone personally that did... i dont wanna hear "I heard....."

My husband and I adopted a sibling group through foster care. We never intended to become foster parents but that's how you get listed first. It was extremely easy looking back. In the middle of the process it was long and hard because the parents have rights until the rights are either voluntarily given up or terminated. That would be the only down side, the confusion it causes having 2 sets of *parents* during the process before adoption. But regardless of how it affects you personally, someone needs to be there for the children. I hope that this answer helps some.

I have three adopted daughters aged 16, 14 and 12. They were adopted by myself and my husband in under three months. It isn't a lengthy process but it can be hard and can put a strain on the family. It is also an emotional time but it is most definitely worth it.

My big sister was adopted (I'm 15 and she's 20) and my parents adopted her when she was about 2 weeks old. It took my parents a lot of waiting, but it was absolutely worth it. And they adopted her from the US. I've never ever seen her as anything different then my sister. A lot of the time I even forget that she is adopted. She's like blood, and I've never felt any differently. And neither have my parents. I love my sister like she's my best friend and I am so thankful my parents adopted her. They gave her a loving home and a great life. So if you can provide a great life for your adopted child, then by all means go for it. It's great to have people like you in the world who are willing to adopt and give children like my sister a home :)

My husband and I have both adopted in the US and have fostered children. Adoption was much easier for us. We got really lucky and had our daughter in 6 months from the first time we called the agency. This is unusual and it is expensive but worth it. I could have not given birth to a more perfect baby. The foster care system is a mess and it is a shame. These children are taken from their homes in extreme cases. I work full time but was expected to take these kids for visitation rights, psychology appointments and court dates. It is not easy to foster - but as long as you know that going into it. We need people who can provide good foster homes for these kids but it is tough. Good luck with your decision.

My ap's adopted three children (all from different families). They always talked about it as if was quite easy...but that was the 60's.

I think it is hard to adopt, because my mom has been trying to adopt for such a long time. I am 19teen years old.
