Find answers to your legal question.

So my uncle brought his nfamily photos last night to X-mas?

He looked just like his nfather. His daughter looks just like his nfather as well. It was very very cool to see these photos. He's been in reunion for 7 years. His nmother had taken out an ad in a local paper and of all things his boss saw it and showed it to him--he said my aunt actually called to follow up as he was coming to the conclusion that he didn't want to. One thing lead to another and now he has an relationship with his aunt and many of his nfamily members. My question is, if in reunion, what lead up the actual "reunion" part of your journey? Was there years of research? Did you always know through an open situation? Was it a chance meeting? Did they find you or you find them? Who did you look like the most?
Additional Details
WOW--I can't imagine that feeling.

I started searching the moment I turned 18. I requested whatever info the CAS could give me, and sent out for my adoption order. It was then I found out that I had an older sister. I looked through yearbooks, miles of microfilm, checked the adds in the paper in case someone was looking for me, joined registries, online and off.

I was having medical issues, and my dr sent in a request for a search based on a medical need. Shortly after that, I came across a volunteer group who performed searches. I gave them whatever information I had, and within 2 weeks, I had a name, and a phone number. I sat on that number for a few days, then called, it was brief, very emotional, and we set up a time to meet at my appartment.

My first mom brought my sister with her. It was a closed adoption. But I found out I had met and associated with close relatives over the years, a cousin who was a good friend in highschool, and while babysitting for a friend, she had a buddy over, who turned out to be my half sister. The one and only time I will ever see her in my life.

Was funny though, about 2 months after I found them, I got the letter stating that a formal search would be started on my behalf due to the medical problems. In all honesty, it wasn't an awful medical problem, but my dr felt that medical history was so very important that he didnt want me to have to go through life without it. Especially with children. I'm greatful that even one person stood up for me in the mess called adoption.

I look very much like my dad, and have a strong physical resemblance to the women on his side. My sister and I are mirror images of each other, as are our daughters.

I remember it like it was yesterday. It was Valentine's eve and my daughter's dad and I had planned on heading out for a romantic dinner but he wanted to stop at the office and fix a website that was down. I sat at his second computer and looked at anything and everything I could think of, you name it and I looked it up. After a few hours I was super pissy and wanting to leave, 5 more min he said. I typed "adoption" into altavista.com and got a link to reuinionregistry.com. Put in my birthdate and VIOLA! There she is, looking for me. I had thought of searching but hadn't done anything about it. That was a Sunday and by Friday she was here, by Sunday we were leaving for her home, 6 hours north of where I live. I didn't leave her for 4 years.

I am my mother's twin. I'll find a pic and post the link, it is kinda creepy lol.

Led up to it?

hmmmm, i read a letter at 5 in the morning from a 3rd party stating my "family" wanted to meet me. After many weeks and repeated NOs to reunion, I finally relented.

fast forward 2 years -- moved to midwest, closer to both bfamilies; my daughter wanted to be in the midwest. I was at a low in my life and felt the change would be good.

again, fast forward about 3 years...Bmom was interfering and undermining the decisions I made for my daughter. That was it. Although my daughter maintained contact with her, I no longer wanted her to be a part of my life.

*bam* 09/06/07....my daughter went into labor. I called my bmom the following morning to give her an update (no baby yet); that afternoon, after the birth of the most beautiful baby in the world, i walked out and greeted my bmom with a smile. I shared pictures and video until my daughter could receive visitors at which time I told her to go ahead and go in there and see my daughter and baby.

Life changes. Our attitudes, our tolerance, our patience. We're in our second reunion in almost 9 years and, while it's going pretty well, she can still sometimes grind on my nerves and test my patience. However, as critical as she is, I know she means well. I'm finally starting to see her and my bdad as more than just "friends of the family".

now, here i sit on 12/26/08, fat and tired from too much turkey and ham and barely able to get off the couch. I look at a floor strewn with empty boxes, tissue paper and toys that my granddaughter has pulled out and dragged around yet again. I still have to unload the dishwasher because I had 16 people here yesterday. It was a fabulous holiday that I shared with my bmom and her husband, her son and his wife as well as their two kids in addition to my granddaughter's father's family. I couldn't have asked for more. The laughter and the conversation, the food and the wine, the squeals of delight of kids as they open their presents - it was all great.

So no, there were no years of research prior to reunion -- that has only just begun. It's been a roller coaster and crazy.

Yes, I always knew I was adopted although the adoption was closed. I always had my bmom's name as my parents had a copy of the OBC.

I look most like my bdad. I stopped dead in my tracks the first time I saw him.

I am a combination.

He thought I looked like her, she thinks I look more like him.

There's no mistaking it though, I'm their kid.

I guess what's weird to to me is I had NO idea what THEY looked like, but when I saw the pics (esp. pics from when they were my age at the time) I knew.

I could have picked them out from thousands of pictures.

My question is, if in reunion, what lead up the actual "reunion" part of your journey? I had to break the law to get my mother's name. I hired someone who "knew someone" in the Ohio Vital Statistics department.

Was there years of research? Nope. I had her name withing 2 weeks of "hiring" someone

Did you always know through an open situation? Nope, my adoption was as closed as they come.

Did they find you or you find them? I found her

Who did you look like the most? My mother. It's actually quite freaky. We could be identical twins, right down to the way we stand, look, walk and act.

We had a close adoption (1972) I decided to search in mar 2001 (I should have looked years ago), my bdaughter was 29, I found a search angel and 1 month and 40.00 later I had a name, I sent a letter (ended up being her parents hom) and she got it, we corresponded via snail mail and phone and then in aug of 2001, we met in person. My husband and I drove to her town and her and her amom met us for lunch. So I consider our reunion from the first phone call when I heard her voice and she sounded just like me. She looks like my husbands family tall and thin.
