Step parent adoption?

Just a few questions I hope someone could help me with. My daughter is 12 1/2 and my husband and I have been together for 10 years. My husband is financially and emotionally responsible for her. My ex husband has barely paid child support and never wants visitation. My daughter has considered my husband her Daddy. We have a daughter together and he has never shown any difference in them. I was wondering if there is any way we could force my ex to let my husband adopt her? He doesn't want to be accountable in any way, but he doesn't want to give up rights. I don't understand it. Any help would be appreciated.

I was in a similar situation. My attorney sent my ex-husband notice my husband wanted to adopt his biological child. He didn't respond so my attorney placed an adoption notice in the newspaper which ran for thirty days. At the end of that time we went to court and the judge finalized the adoption. It was a little pricey but oh so worth it. See a lawyer and they can handle this for you. Good luck and God bless!

Nope. He's the bio dad and no amt. of will power or paperwork can change it.

You would have to prove that he's a danger to your daughter and unfit to be humanbeing.

I've been with my husband for two years now and we are going threw the process of him adopting my daughter. I told her father that if he wanted me to drop child support he would have to pay for my husband to adopt her. A one time payment of 1500 dollars was a lot cheaper to him then 6000 a year in child support plus having to keep medical on her.
If the father of your daughter is not paying his part in her support you should start calling the attorney generals office and then the cops. If he owes back child support they will hold his income tax return checks and give them to you. Eventually he should break and offer to sign his rights away.

You can file adoption paperwork and take it through the courts, your ex would have to show up to fight the adoption and then stand up in court and say why he has not been around.
