Termination of parental rights and adoption?

I live in Georgia and my husband wants to adopt my son (he is the only father my son knows and we have been together since before the birth) is it true that if we get the adoption papers that there is a form for the biological father to sign his rights away

As wonderful as this sounds to you, I'd check into new homeland security issues before going through with it. It has been known to cause passport issues, also has eliminated voting rights in some cases. Do your homework before you hand your child more than you had bargained for.
to answer the question, yes |

Yep. I haven't seen my biological dad since i was 2 years old, my step-dad wanted to adopt my sister and me and couldn't because my bioligical dad refused to sign the form to give consent even though he never paid child support or saw us, he can still refuse to sign. I think the law needs a lot of work to take into account dead beat parents. I suggest a lawyer. |

Yes, the father can sign away his parental rights and allow your husband to adopt. That means the bio-father would not legally be related to the children so he will never be required to pay child support. But it also means he could never sue for custody or visitation after the adoption is final. |

Yes it is. My step sister did that four years ago. They had to go to court too. Good luck to you |

there is more to it then just getting the forms. First, you get a lawyer and they start the paperwork which includes termination of parental rights (that will need to be done in front of a judge) But first your new husband must be approved by the state to adopt him. It usually includes background checks, interviews and lots of paperwork. But it can be done |
