Most people want baby's, those do get adopted here and fast. Plus the American adoption process is hard and strict about who they let adopt.

maybe they are scared that one day the biological parents come and want their child back.
that would not happen if the child is from nameless parents out of a 3rd world country,
but I think as long as there are unwanted kids in the usa , we should find them a home first

Because right now, its the latest accessory. A foreign baby. They are the new tiny dog. Pretty soon they will be out of fashion, and perhaps the babies here will stand a better chance of being adopted.

Because some believe that parent-less children in other countries are worse off than those in America.

In many cases it's cheaper (than adopting a domestic, healthy, newborn, white infant).

It can be shorter wait times. In most countries the wait time is like 0-2years. Compare that to waiting 10 years to adopt a domestic, healthy, newborn, white infant.

The number one reason is, once parents sign the paperwork, the child is theirs. There is little to no chance of the parents changing their minds in international adoptions. In some countries, the parents' identities are not even known!

I live in the USA and adopted my son from Guatemala. I am single and the wait is alot longer for a baby in the US than in Guatemala. Yes, I wanted to adopt a young child that was not abused or neglected first.

I believe every child deserves a home, not just American children. I also don't believe in the USA foster care system and do not support it, ofcourse except through my taxes, which I have no say over.

Foster care in the USA is bad and abusatory towards American children and parents... bio, foster, and adoptvie. The children suffer... then get kicked out into society. It's a set up for failure.

Good for those who want to adopt an older American child. To me, it's THOSE people who have the SAVIOR complex that is mentioned alot around here.

Because there are so many children everywhere who need homes, and some other countries are way worse off than America in having the ability to care for children in need. I didn't adopt as a form of charity, but I did want to adopt children truly in need of homes. We had too many problems working with our local DCF office, and that's what spurred us to look elsewhere.

We adopted four siblings ages 3-9 from overseas. We were not in a hurry, we were not trying to save money, we were not trying to get a healthy baby. We were not trying to dodge the children's family. We met their father when we were in Ethiopia and we remained in touch until he passed away. We also work very hard at integrating the children's native culture into our lives.

because its easier and cheaper. which is sad

It seems to me like it's because they want a baby as in an infant and not an older child, and they have a better change of getting a baby sooner going overseas than they would if they were to wait for an American child.

It's pretty sad, considering all the kids in their very own states who are RIGHT THERE and need homes. My husband and I plan to adopt from our state, NOT a baby, and we would like to adopt siblings so we can keep a family together. We want to be parents, and that's what it's really about...not just having a cute baby to carry around.

simply because some other countries are so poor & the babies will have a much better life here. they want to offer a life to those babies that they would not otherwise have known, but i agree that all the little ones here need all the love & care too.

my thoughts exactly. Not that international adoption is bad, but when i hear of how many children in ths country alone need homes and loving families, it breaks my heart.

i have always wondered the same thing. people can adopt from where ever they want but i would like to ask someone who has adopted from somewhere else why they did not just adopt from where they live. it never made sense to me

Just A Girl
1) to get a newborn you have to be "chosen" by a birth mom. That is very difficult if you are even slightly older...or of you are not upper class with the big house, can give child a pony, etc. Think about it...you want "the best" for you baby...if you had to choose between a very rich family and a family who pays their bills but will never have that 5 bedroom house on 6 acres in the gated commuity next to a famous football player. who would you choose? (that's rhetorical)

2) to adopt from foster care you have to wait until a child is "free". Usually that's several years into the system...years! In some states (PA comes to mind) the foster care system has to approach every single family member they can to take the child before placing with a non-bio family. EVERY known family member...and give them each a shot to follow a plan to take the child. Each parent--worthy or not-has the right to go through a case plan of improvement before rights are terminated. I understand the whole resolution of family...but in many cases it is just delaying the inevitable..and screwing up the kid in the mean time...and then the kid gets older and very few people want to adopt older kids. read "the girl in the window" in the st petersburg times...that mom was being given a chance to get girl back...she only signed her rights away to avoid jail time for severe neglect (child kept in closet for 7 years)...otherwise she could have attempted to follow some plan to get her back....Call any foster care place...the youngest child available for adoption is 5-7 years old with learning and behavior issues....most are in sibling groups...there are younger kids occasionally...but only sporadically....and still behavior and medical issues come into play.

3) the bio parents won't try to come and take the kid away after 3 months...the adoption is final. period. There have been too many cases splashed all over the media highlighting all the problems that can occur domestically.

The states has better foster care and other facilities that cater to children. Internationally, most kids just because street kids. Which are kids whom live on the street and beg.
