I think it is wonderful that you want to adopt.

What about the China adoption appeals to you? Have you researched any other countries or domestic?

Have you thought about birth order? A lot of adoption specialists say not to mess with the birth order of the children adopted or bio that you already have.

Talk to other parents that have adopted from China so you can see if that is something you want to do. After meeting a few couples that adopted from China we decided to adopt in the US. It just seemed better for our family - not that I think it is wrong for everyone.

Do your research and make sure you and your family are ok with the decision before proceeding.

A couple of rules for adopting from China are that you are married and that both of you are at least 30 years old. There are now even more rules about medications taken for mental ailments (depression/anxiety) and also financial requirements. The wait to adopt from China right now is over 33 months...and counting. There are many many boys that you can adopt from China if you are willing to take on some type of special need. Usually there are many boys that have cleft lip/pallets that can be easily corrected.

There are no downfalls that I have faced.

You have to be prepared to help children work through their traumas which many of them have (unless you are adopting an infant). Also, there is a ton of paperwork, and the wait could be short or long; you just never know.

A guy in my class had two other brothers, when the youngest reached grade 6, they adopted a girl from China, named Shea-lee. As far as I know there haven't been any downfalls at all. She's quite pretty, but they did go down to China with another family which was going to adopt a boy, but they returned without a child because the boy was handicapped (the family knew this already) but the Chinese government wouldn't let them take him.
Everything else is good though, she's healthy and she's having no problems. The only issue is simply that they aren't sure of her exact birthday since she was taken from her mother when she was only a few weeks old because of the "one child law" they have.

my sister who is 18 adopted a girl from china.

if you get them to old they are troublesome and hard to work with
and with a family of three adopted children it can be tough
but the family does grow closer
