Hello.
Why do you think ADOPTEES, both as children and adult adoptees, would not like adoption? What challenges do you believe they face? Please include how you formed your opinion on adoption. Do you feel there could be more to adoption than what you learned there? If so, where do you think would be the best source of info to learn more about how adult adoptees feel?
By asking this, I am trying to gain perspective into how the general public views adoption from the adoptee's point of view and why. Thank you very much for your input.
Please note - This question is not referring to whether or not adoptees could learn to love the people who adopted them, but rather to them being subjected to the institution of adoption itself. Thanks.

Adoptees might think (and sometimes with good reason) that their biological parents would have given them better lives.
They may suffer from a negative stigma attached to adoptees (others considering them not as good since they were "rejected" by biological parents).
They could want to know about biological family and have difficulty getting that information.
I wouldn't say there's really a distinct source for these ideas. They come just from knowing what basically happens in an adoption as does my overall opinion of adoption.
Of course there can be more to it than that. First, there are details. Second, since adoption involves people, there will always be feelings and opinions involved, which can only be discovered by hearing from those directly involved in adoptions.
General research of many sorts can give details about adoption (online searches, talking to people, etc), and then sites like this one, other discussion boards about adoption, and talking in person with adult adoptees can give information about feelings and opinions of adult adoptees. |

I thought adoption was win-win.
And then I contacted my original family and heard my mother's voice over the microphone telling me how much she still needed me and missed me.
Then I knew she never gained anything from adoption, in the process breaking the win-win illusion that I had been taught to believe for the first two decades of my life. |

The adopted person might feel deeply hurt. They might feel their own mother didn't even want them...The challenge is to mature very early and gain a strong sense of self worth. With support it is possible but not generally achieved....I know more 5/1 adopted people who feel bad about themselves/have emotional, issues than the non adopted people. |
