So scummy, isn't it? Love how that one director owns the agency AND the building the agency is housed in! So he's not only trolling for human flesh to keep his job but to pay a mortgage. Talk about double dipping!
Or how about this other agency director's quote? “Adoption is a highly personal and confidential business" Really?! How can adoption be confidential when it's all so *OPEN* now? Just whose confidentiality are we protecting? And since when is a non-profit "confidential"? When you don't pay taxes on your business you automatically leave yourself open to scrutiny--right?
There are NO "checks and balances" here!
Bravo to the Atlanta journal-Constitution! |

<quote>
State law requires adoption agencies to operate as not-for-profit organizations to guard against ***the appearance*** of baby selling.
</quote>
Says it all really, don't it - s' long as it doesn't LOOK like they're selling kids, they can do wtf they want. :( |

“There’s no accountability,” Eisenberg said. “There are no guidelines by the IRS, even on self-dealing. It’s just appalling.”
I think that guys quote says it all. Its widespread and no I'm not surprised. People that get into the business know this before hand and want to get rich quick off the backs of baby's and their mothers.
It seems like there a lot of those sleazy christian husband/wife teams running agency's. |

“When you get matched with somebody, it’s like being pregnant and waiting to give birth,” Brea Freeman said. “To pull the rug out from under us, it was devastating.”
It's like being pregnant and waiting to give birth, when matched with a "birthmother"? I guess the "birthmother" is not really pregnant and waiting to give birth, because the adoptive parents want to take that experience and make it their own, just like they want to take someone else's child and make it their own. Her whole pregnancy and birth experience is all for THEM.

No surprises here, just disgust. The industry is powerful and has a customer base with the drive and the dough. The PAPs can even get loans, now, for Pete's sake!
This is another case of, when will these women wake up and realize what they lost? I can guarantee that the new industry of today is slicker, more subtle and more well funded than ever. These barmuggles can say, "I was a good person, I didn't abort," without having to face the fact that they used adoption in the same way as after-the-fact birth control. How long they will stay in that daze is anyone's guess. I guess as long as they can believe they are heroines for giving their child to strangers, they will stay in La La Land.

Does it surprise me? Nope. It cost around 35k to adopt an infant. That money has to be going to someone. Its not going to the expecting mother. Most agencies require the mother the to apply for Medicaid. Which knocks out the cost of medical care. And ask anyone who adopted from foster the legal fees and home study were both under 5k. So where does the other 30k go to? The agency and those at the top are of course going to make the most.
The Red Cross is just as bad. The Exe. there have 6 figure salaries.

Maybe I'll open an adoption agency as a get rich quick business. It will only cost me my soul! |

Good information and no I'm not surprised at all. I believe many of these 'non-profits' are profitable..nationwide...they make money off the PAPs and also receive many federal grants and subsidies. They are in the business of "babies and children"...far too many of these 'agencies' USE children to gain a nice paycheck. So much for the myth that these agencies 'have to pay bills'....the biggest Bills being paid to the people who own and direct these agencies. If the American govt will not get rid of adoption agencies...then they should at least (the agencies) be tightly regulated..especially the privatization of foster care...where adoption agencies also have lucrative contracts with their state for foster care services. |

These are not isolated incidents..... This goes on every where! ... No, It doesn't surprise one bit..
The reason these people do what they do for a living, Is because they are getting paid very well... They don't care about kids....ie... (Adoptees).. They can care less what kind of family the adoptee gets placed with, As long as their money is green , They are happy.... Its not about finding the best adoptive parents possible, Its about which one has the deepest pockets..... Its nothing more than a business transaction...... You know there is a old saying..." If life was fair, There would be no rich people" I cant tell you how true that is....
I would have more respect for these people if they sold drugs or robbed banks....
The only one who suffers the consequences is the adoptee....
Why do you think some of these adoption agencies have been in business for over 50, 70 yrs..... Cause business is booming....

Back in the nineties, it was no cost to adopt. All you needed was a good job & room enough in your home. Its outrageous that all the children that need homes, a family who cares & loves them. That you have to PAY to bring a child in your home. I don't understand it & probably never will. Some people adopt because they can't have children. |

I think adoption agency workers should be paid fairly for their education & experience, & also that adoptions should be done ethically & without charging extremely high fees.
What Valley of Hope did was wrong & it's good they got shut down but I dont see a problem with legitimate adoption social workers & lawyers getting paid well because they go to school for a long time to earn their degrees & work hard. |
