What's a "fomer adoptee"?
Find answers to your legal question.

What's a "fomer adoptee"?

I've read this term here. What does it mean exactly?

I'm an adoptee.

BOTZ
Since I am one who has used this term here (not the only one, mind you) I will answer as to what I mean.

Simply, someone who was adopted at some time during their life (in my life, as an infant) and who is NO LONGER adopted. I DON'T mean "someone who is grown" because, even though I am 36 years old, I am -- as of today -- STILL adopted.

I DO mean, as Camira stated, someone who has had their adoption order vacated/set aside/annuled/etc. This is what my Mom and I (my REAL Mom...aka the woman who gave birth to me and always loved me...NOT the woman who 'took delivery' of me and NEVER loved me) are working on RIGHT NOW in my case. I am, today, an adoptee. Soon I hope to be a "former adoptee".

The term could also apply to a person who was adopted and 'disrupted' (sent back) by the people who adopted him/her. That happens WAAAAY more than most people care to talk about -- because it flies in the face of the "sunshine and puppies" that is the prevailing opinion about adoption in current, U.S. society.

Take care!

I'm not 100% sure so don't quote me, but I think it's an adoptee who has either been "adopted back" by their first parents or an adoptee who's adoption has been legally vacted/set aside/etc.

My eldest son is a former adoptee. I adopted him back as an adult.

He is no longer legally tied in any way to the strangers who raised him. He was never related to them in any way, sharing no genes or family history, but adoption by them produced the "legal fiction" that he was, complete with a fabricated birth record that stated that they gave birth to him. That has now been fixed and the law reflects the fact that we are related. His birth record now reflects the truth: That i gave birth to him and that we are related.

It is entirely his choice now whether or not he has a relationship with the people who raised him. They told him when he was 22 that they wished that they had never adopted him, and this is indicative of the abuse they heaped on him, so he has no interest in them.

As Botz said, its an adoptee who had their adoption vacated or whateverterm you want to us. I have never heard of this happening. I wish Botz luck!
